Falling for You

Falling for You
4 of 5 stars false
Newly single Cassidy Quinn is thrilled to be a contestant on the new reality dating show The One. But her excitement turns to horror when the gorgeous bachelor turns out to be her ex-boyfriend. Seeing Brad again makes Cassidy realize she might not be as "over him" as she thought-and then she meets hunky cameraman Evan Burke. After watching his brother lose his wife in a tragic accident, Evan vows never to fall in love. But following Cassidy around as her personal cameraman makes him question his decision, and resisting her gets harder with every sunbathing, bikini-wearing day. Cassidy and Evan begin a forbidden affair while her ex-boyfriend tries to win her heart back one groping, awkward moment at a time. If Cassidy can manage to stop falling off horses (literally), stop falling onto her ex-boyfriend, the bachelor (yes, literally), and stop falling in love with backstage playboy Evan, she might still make it through the show without becoming a tabloid sensation. But soon Cassidy must choose between the ex who broke her heart and the cameraman who might never love her back. For Cassidy, this reality show just got real.

****This book is part of a blog tour, I received a copy for my honest review****

Cassidy gets talked into going on a new reality dating show, her sister had filled out the application for her and once she warmed up to the idea she got excited. On her first day there she meets Evan, the hot cameraman who will be following her around while she is there. When the girls finally get to meet the bachelor Cassidy sees that it is her ex, the one who left her six months ago to become a surfer in California. She starts to get close to Evan and they develop a relationship that could bankrupt both of them. She doesn't want to get back with her ex but she doesn't want to get off the show because then she would have to leave Evan. Evan has to decide if she is worth ruining his career and taking a chance and Cassidy has to decide if she can be with a man who may not love her. Cassidy is funny, clumsy, indecisive and has a temper; she is a normal woman with flaws. Evan is a hot cameraman with emotional issues, he tries to be the good guy and it only makes things worse. Chris the bachelor is a self center egocentric pig, when he is not surrounded by the women he turns into a jerk. The other girls in the house range from really nice and friendly to down right bitchy with a helping of slut. I really liked this book, the writing was ok, but the story itself made up for it. The characters were interesting and had a quality about them that made them seem like real people that could meet anywhere. Falling for You is a light fun read that keeps you entertained from the first page to the last.

Falling into Paradise 18+

The following review is for 18+ readers.

Falling Into Paradise
3 of 5 stars false
A woman too afraid to commit. A man too hurt to love again. A passion that refuses to be denied.
Sophie Redmond knew betrayal, she knew mistrust. She knew everything that was wrong with the world, until Damon Watson charmed his way into her life. The rules she used to shield her heart were broken one by one, as Damon showed her compassion and kindness. When no one else believes in her, he shows her hope. But is hope ever enough?
Damon knew trouble when he saw it. He was the sheriff. He could spot it a mile away and Sophie was trouble with a capital T. What was it about this City Slicker doctor that made him want to forget everything but those whiskey brown eyes and that honey blonde hair spilled against his naked chest.
Can Damon put the past behind him and choose to love again?
Reader Alert! Sophie thought sex was a game that could be controlled with rules, but add a playboy who knew every trick in the book, and she couldn’t help but throw her rule book away. Caution! Sophie and Damon tend to sizzle on the page as much as they do in bed, so take care to stock up on the ice!

 Review

Sophie is a newer doctor in a small town; she moved to get away from the scandal of a child dying and being blamed for it. Damon is the town’s sheriff and the resident town player. Damon wants Sophie and she is ok with it as long as they keep it as just sex with strict rules. When a kid dies and Sophie is blamed again, they have to find out what really happened. Sophie has to decide if she has room in heart for Damon and if she can trust him. Damon has to figure out if Sophie is worth the trouble and if he can get over his past. Sophie was a good female main character; she was smart, in control of her sexuality and strong.  She is bull headed, at times confusing and clueless, but she has a big heart. Damon is a playboy with relationship issues; he protects people and proves that he will do anything for the people he cares about. I liked this book, it had an interesting plotline, the characters were well written and there were surprises everywhere. The book was fast paced with lots of excitement and mystery. As much as I enjoyed this book I had to give it a lower rating, I felt like I was dropped into the book a couple chapters in, there was just something missing at the beginning of the book. I also really wanted an epilogue, it seemed like it just kind of ended. If this book had a prologue and a longer ending it would have been a solid five stars. Falling into Paradise is still a good exciting read, I was entertained and as promised the sex scenes were hot.

Review

As you can see, I have only rated this book 3 stars.
This is for a few reasons…. however firstly I will go through what I liked about this book.
Knight and Play is a hot read and this is mostly to do with Lucien, his words are highly seductive and he exudes that confidence that we have all come to know and love from our sexy book boyfriends. It is well written and that although similar to some stories out there, it had enough of a different story line to seem fresh.
In saying that, there were things about this book that I didn’t like.
Like Lucien I have a real problem with cheating. Sometimes, totally depending on how it is written, I can handle it. But there was something about Knight and Play that made me uncomfortable. Yes, Sophie’s husband is cheating but does that mean that she should be free too?
I didn’t understand Lucien’s need to get Sophie to do the things he wanted her to do. Why is he so keen? Why does he seem to think this will solve all her problems? Does he like her? Is it for revenge? Is he just a jerk who is used to getting what he wants? So many questions… and of course we are just starting to get to the point when we may get some of those answers when we reach my next problem in the book.
It’s a cliffhanger!!!! Argh, I know I am not the only one who get’s totally frustrated with reading a great book only to find you have to buy two more to get the answers you seek. This book had started to wane for me a bit and then in the last chapter or so I started to get a bit more excited, emotions were starting to show and I was getting excited. Then….. tense moment… the end. Next book due in April. Grrrrr I admit that this ending gave me enough to intrigue me into getting the next one.
One more little thing was, the foreplay in this book was great, the flirting off the charts hot. But when it got down to the nitty gritty, I felt a little gypped. I can’t quite put my finger on why; maybe the way it was written. However, I just couldn’t get into the sex scenes. I wouldn’t complain about this if it was just a romance book, but it is an erotic novel, so the sex is kind of important
This book is advertised as being “Romantic, emotional & intensely erotic”. I definitely get the emotional and the erotic part, but at no stage did I feel the romance. I think I needed a bit more character information from Lucien for that to work for me.
Sorry, I do not mean to be a big Debbie downer on this book. It was enjoyable and I did really like certain parts, but as a whole there was something just not right about it for me. I am sure this could have been personal, as I said I don’t like reading about cheating. Maybe if I got the whole story instead of just the first bit I could come to a better conclusion and see things more clearly, but as it stands this was only a “good” read for me, not a great one.

Midnight Fantasy

 2 of 5 stars false
After a series of football injuries leave him broken in both body and spirit, former star quarterback Joe Armstrong decides that his life is over. Wanting nothing more than to sit alone with a strong drink, Joe is less than pleased when he receives an unexpected visit from nurse Annabelle Calloway. Finding the golden-haired angel impossible to ignore, Joe reluctantly lets Annabelle into his home.
Although she’s seen her fair share of tough cases, Annabelle isn’t sure how to reach the troubled Joe. But having almost succumbed to depression herself, Annabelle feels an instant connection to her charge. A connection that becomes undeniable. Enveloped by passion and filled with longing, Annabelle will stop at nothing to give Joe a reason to live—and a reason to love.

Review

****NetGalley provided me with a copy of this book for my honest review****
Midnight Fantasy was not a good read for me, it seemed very dated. The idea and plot line were interesting but the execution left a lot to be desired. Annabelle was a very bland heroine and it seemed that she was lacking a real personality. Joe was a selfish hero and I had a hard time finding any redeemable qualities in him. There was no real connection between the two of them, beyond the instant lust they had for each other, there was no connection. I don't know why this couple would stay together; there were certain parts of the book that were cute and funny. This just wasn't a book for me, I did like the writing itself, so I will most likely take a look at her other books.

Excerpt

Prologue

Twelve years ago
I wanted to be just like her, I even loved her name, Daniella. She told me she was five years old, same as me, so I decided we were sisters. She could be the pretty brown princess and I could be the messy blonde princess.
“Deal, Anna. We'll be dream sisters.” I wished she came to me in the real world, but this was good too. I twirled around in swirls of colors and danced with seahorses, but she stood there looking mad.
“No, don't ask,” she said with her small fingers pressed over my mouth. “All done talking now, Anna, or the nightmares will come and your gift will be lost.” I nodded because I wanted her to smile again. The next day I sang with my mom during breakfast and I told my dad all about the prettiest princess I had ever seen.
That night I choked on my screams because Daniella meant it. The bloody biting nightmares would come if I talked.
Three months later Mom and Dad cried right in front of me because some woman in a boring outfit said the word autism. Six weeks after that, Dad said he was done with Washington and done with all the diagnosis talk.
We packed up, said goodbye to my cranky grandma, and traveled the world, part of the world. “Beaches, Sam. Sun and the warm ocean will heal all of us.”
“We don't need healing, Sue. Anna will talk when she's ready.”

One

Present Day
“If you're not paddling, then you're drowning,” yelled out the overly fit river rafting guide. He was the only one of us who looked good in a wetsuit.
“Your dad wants you to feel the high that only nature can bring. I want to show you that out here dressed like this, we are all equal. No one looks good wearing something that squeezes and pinches what was intended to rest and sit.”
After my mom called our wetsuits “the great equalizer,” she glanced over to the blond, ridiculously hot guide, who until an hour ago had the upper half of his suit hanging at his waist, and conceded that he was the exception. My dad agreed.
If I had to imagine what a Brett would be like, cute, unkind, and bossy would be my assessment. I could see goodness in him, but right then I wanted nothing to do with the vision of him four years from now coaching an all girls' basketball team to the state championships.
It was my first experience with mountain runoff water. Before that day, the coldest wetness I had ever experienced involved reaching into a cooler in vain to find the one Orange Crush that my mom took care to include with the plethora of various beer brands.
“Little girl, we are not sight seeing,” Brett said as he cut his paddle through a roll of aqua water. “Anna, right? All I need from you is a simple 'got it.' You don't even have to call me Sir.”
“I'm happy to call you Sir,” my dad said, sounding too calm considering the almost violent bobbing of our raft. “Let me try it out. Sir, would you please stop ogling my seventeen-year-old daughter. Sir, would you mind thinking back to our phone conversation when I booked this rafting/B&B excursion with Great Cascades Adventures.”
The Anna-disclaimer as I liked to call it went like this, “Anna doesn't talk. She's brilliant and sensitive, but for now she's nonverbal.” The word nonverbal often came out in a rushed exhale, and the word autism never slipped out of my dad's mouth.
Dad gave Brett a high eyebrow raise, then nodded to my mom. Her turn.
“She is lovely, though. Isn't she?” I shook my head with the barest hint of a smile playing at my lips. “The orange vest really brings out the lavender tint in her eyes.” Brett stared at me for a second before checking to see if my dad caught him ogling again. I realized Mom might have just set the guy up, her own way of admonishing his behavior. This time I broke out in a full smile. No one looked out for me like my parents.
“Anna, Anna! Paddle!” The shouting came from my dad. His panicked voice could not dislodge me from the shock of the arctic wall that just hit my body. I tasted the sweetness of untouched water and my body stood at alert, but my hands held on to the paddle unable to do the job we spent the entire sunrise rehearsing.
“Shit, we're not in position,” the guide's almost playful arrogance now a fleeting memory. I looked over to Brett finally remembering what I was supposed to do, but the roller coaster beneath me had my paddle swiping through froth. “We missed it. I'm sorry, we missed it.”
“They can't do Class IV,” my dad said, then he looked back at me. Something like a painful hiccup escaped my mouth. With all my heart, I wanted to wipe that terror right out of his eyes. My mom made a sound like mine, but longer.
Her paddle weaved back and forth too quickly to be effective. Dad and Brett took longer, more powerful strides, but Brett's constant curses, my parents' frantic prayers, and the storm of froth and ice-cold water said it all. We couldn't handle Class IV rapids.
If I talked, I would have asked them to act normal again. I wanted my overly affectionate, carefree parents and the know-it-all guide back. I had voice in me and I could do it. Fix everything. My quiet, that brought sweet dreams and moving pictures, seemed a high price at that moment. I could sing, but that would only halt their saving actions, and surely we would all drown.
“Could we just get out and swim to shore?” My mom tried to whisper, but her voice was near a yelp. The men shook their heads. Brett pierced her a look that said, “Could your guardian angel swoop you all up and carry you to dry land? Sure.” I flashed on my long ago nightmares where blood and death were the backdrop. The fear I felt at five spiked through me enough I almost dropped my useless paddle.
“She's a good swimmer, Sam.” My mom paired her words with a reassuring smile. He rewarded her effort with a fraction less terror in his eyes. Another painful hiccup escaped my mouth when I thought of how deep he had to dig to give her something, anything that resembled hope.
“There's a drop coming!” Both men reached for me but it was too late; I was through the air. My mom's yellow drenched hair tangled with the orange material of her life vest as she screamed my name. Long, masculine, mismatched arms reaching out for my airborne body cracked against each other, giving them the feel that they were not made of soft skin and breakable bones.
The water swallowed them, turning all the vibrant colors I’d been swimming in all day, from Brett's blond hair and golden skin, to my mom's scarlet fingernails, to my dad's streak of purple hair he’d dyed the night before, all to a wash of white.
I hit what felt like rough pavement, but pulled me under like angry quick sand. A wall knocked the air out of my lungs and the ice froze my eyes open as I searched for my parents. The cold stood on my chest, collapsing whatever kept a body from turning into a puddle of flesh on the ground.
Even with the suffocating pressure all around me, I resigned myself to staying put. “If you ever get lost, stay put until one of us finds you.” Dad's number one rule and I felt more lost than ever before.
The rushing water gifted me by swelling around rocks, the only reason my body escaped deathblows at every turn. I braved an intake of breath, only to despair when no one else appeared in my view. Had I ever been alone on any of our adventures?
The relentless current sucked me down again. Lightheadedness or plain exhaustion dragged my thoughts from survival to the old ladies with all the vivid stories on the islands we traveled most of my life.
Legends usually started out this way. An all-alone-child wishing for something only a little girl could imagine, and then fate would step in and grant it. In the end, the child wished for something she really did not want, when all she had before was lost for the rest of her days.
If I stayed under and wished I were a mermaid, my favorite of all the ancient tales, legend would be summoned, but I would lose my parents. Parents didn't swim alongside their baby fish girl for the rest of their lives.
I took back my wish that I had so many times asked for long before I knew anything like this was possible, and popped my head out of the water. Still no one, just the impressionist painting look of trees lining the banks that were bone-crushing rocks away from me.
I decided not to become a fish, and not to drown, and not to stay put, but that did not make me safe on dry land. I could pray to the Goddess of Melting Glaciers and see if she could be merciful enough to give me a wave, but there were no waves, just walls.
I stopped feeling the ache of the cold, as I suspected would happen. The body is very helpful when you're hurt. Just wait it out and your brain will take care of it. I would have to count on that, as I had made my decision to be thrashed against rocks, since that was my only path to land.
The first hit knocked the air and lingering water out of my lungs. I was part grateful for that. The next one caused a popping sound in my wrist. I let out a cry, my first real sound that day. The third rock met with my head. Absolute worst-case scenario.
The heat of the blood ran over my face, bringing back feeling to that part of my body. The ice and fire fought, causing searing pain from head to toe as my brain started losing its numbing power. I looked around at the greens above me and the crystal blues and cotton ball looking whites surrounding me, as everything turned red, then black.
“Come back. Please don't go,” said a raspy voice that did not belong to my mom or dad, not even Brett. My body convulsed, and the shivers of cold forced my eyes open, then closed.
Uneven earth and spiny twigs bit into my shoulders and alerted me to what I missed a second ago; I made it. Just to prove my guess correct I fell into a coughing fit like those old lady smokers at the nursing home my mom took me to when I was a little girl.
My eyes throbbed from the near drowning and from the missing image of my parents.
“Anna, thank the Gods.” I smiled at the Gods reference, and looked up at the speaker of my favorite line. His face danced and blurred, but he seemed familiar, maybe because he knew my name. “You're hurt. I'm sorry it took me so long to get to you.” I tried to sit up, but my worn body kept me down.
“I need to get you to the hospital.” He was taking responsibility for me. Only my parents had that job. I stretched my hand out in protest, but the lack of depth perception had my trembling fingers grazing his overheated neck. I swore his whole body shook.
I tried to sit up again, but this time my head denied me the movement. I ran my fingers over my forehead. I couldn't find the gash or the blood that had turned the suffocating froth princess-pink.
I rolled to my side and faced the river. “Anna, they're gone. I couldn't save them.” Them? Had I lost one of my parents and Brett? How terrible a person was I, that I hoped Brett made the number plural and not my entire world lost forever?
I shook my head, aching to undo his words. I wanted to change my nature and grill the man who looked like a boy, but whose voice commanded something, but I wasn't sure what. He picked me up, his heat scalding my icy skin. My eyes stayed glued to the racing waters.
“They’re all gone.”
“No, no, no, no.” My voice sounded more foreign than my rescuer's. This time the darkness felt almost like my visions, my gift, what I called my running pictures. Only I couldn't make out what I was seeing. No future accomplishments flashed in my mind, no future potential forced my whole body to twirl around in delight. Just bursts of life that went by too quickly register anything.

I'm the mom of two hardcore boys. My oldest trained me to be matter-of-fact, no frills. My youngest wants the whole singsongy sweet package. Thank goodness for reading and writing because they are my sanity makers. I know life is all about the journey, that's why I like my fiction to be all about the destination. I want to be taken somewhere not here when I read, same goes with the stories I create. Thrills, chills, tears, and laughter, but there has to be something to hold on to at the end.

Beyond Eden 18+

This review is for 18+ readers only
Beyond Eden (Eden #1)
5 of 5 stars false
Three lifelong friends find themselves tangled in a web of love, pain and dangerous secrets in this erotic Garden of Eden tale.
Tall, dark and handsome Danny Carlow has always gotten whatever he wants except for the two he wants more than anything-his best friends, lovers Paul and Eve. Determined, he waits like a snake in the grass, poised for the right moment to offer them a temptation too delicious to resist.
Artist Eve Everton makes the painful decision to leave her true love Paul for the siren call of New York City. Ten years later, with her life in shambles, she returns. When Paul's waiting arms aren't available, Eve falls for Danny's charm and finds herself a willing accomplice in the dangerous games Danny plays.
Former college football star Paul Mattling is now a successful attorney with a bright future ahead of him. But behind those brilliant blue eyes are secret desires for a taste of the forbidden. Will he play it safe or give in to Danny and Eve and bite the apple?
Reader Advisory: Not for the faint of heart, the pain in this story is vivid and real, the emotions even more so. Haunting and poignant, Beyond Eden presents a darker side of BDSM. You might gasp. You might cry. You might find yourself reading it again and again.

Review

***I recieved this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review***
“Can you find beauty in darkness, Eve?" Danny asked.
She nodded. "Yes."
"Then look for it," he said softly.”

This is a book of based around love and its many shapes and forms.
Definitely not for the faint hearted, Beyond Eden is a full on emotional journey into the world of BDSM. It is also a wonderfully dark love story.
That is what I took from this book, the things you do for those you love.
The lifelong loving friendship between Danny Boy, Paul Guy and Evie Girl, is passionate, raw, gritty and real. It may not be traditional, it may have some very dark undertones, definitely not your average love story with marriage, babies and white picket fences, but the more you read this book the more you cannot deny the love between this trio. Danny in particular, with all his secret longings and sacrifices, what he had to become… to me his love for Paul guy is some of the strongest I have felt from reading a book. My heart bled for him.
I didn’t feel this way in the beginning, it did take me a while to see the light, so to speak. But as the story evolves and you get to understand why, you start to understand the balance of things in this S/M relationship. So I guess I am saying have patience with this story if you are feeling anger at a particular character, just keep reading.
These characters and there relationship, is one of the most forceful, brutal, in your face bdsm
I guess I really could see the beauty in the darkness.
This book is a very dark romance and if you are easily upset by any of the themes mentioned I would stay away. The characters we have here are into self harm and inflicting harm and sometimes to the extreme.
If these things do not bother you and in fact intrigue you I would thoroughly recommend reading Beyond Eden. It is an amazing and unforgettable read and it will be staying with me for a while.

Jason and Candace (Wolf's Mate#1) 18 +

The following review is for 18+ readers.

Jason & Cadence (Wolf's Mate, #1)
3 of 5 stars false
For 14 years, alpha wolf Jason has watched his partially marked mate Cadence live her life without him. Circumstances force his hand and he must find a way to get her to uncover her buried memories of their past before someone else steps up to take her from him.
For as long as she can remember, hybrid wolf Cadence has loved Jason with every fiber of her being, but he’s consistently shoved her away until the love that’s there is bound tightly in anger and shame. No one can take his place in her heart, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t wolves willing to try.
Will Cadence be able to get through Jason’s icy demeanor to the heart of the boy she’s always loved? Can Jason undo the past so they will have a future together?
This book contains red-hot werewolf loving, plenty of neck biting, and misuse of a kitchen counter. The Wolf’s Mate is a book for mature audiences only and contains sexually explicit content

Review

I was very excited to read this book, I have a fascination with wolves and shifters so it seemed like this would be the book for me.
I liked the characters, Candace had had it rough for a long time and I loved her determination to just get on with it. She was feisty and I cannot resist a feisty female. Jason, I liked as well. If we didn't have his point of view, then you would just think he was a jerk, but we do, so I could feel sorry for him and his impossible situation.
The tension between this couple was awesome and I was hanging on for every meeting and confrontation with them. I will also add that when this couple got down to the business, the sex was steamy and satisfying, just what you would expect from a paranormal romance.
The problem with this book, for me, was that even after everything was wrapped up and the problems solved, the couple reunited and the bad guy eliminated this book kept going. I thought that maybe we were going to get another issue pop up, but it just sort of waffled on until the end. To me there was an extra 30% of this book that we just did not need.
I hate saying things like that because obviously the writer has their reasons but from that point on in the book, my interest waned.
That is the reason for my 3 star rating. It would have been a lot higher if not for that.
I will still try and read more books in this series, because I believe it has promise and first books are always the hardest, because of all the world building and getting the feel for everything etc. Still, it was a solid paranormal romance, 3 stars.

Loving Mick 18+

The following review is for 18+ readers.

3 of 5 stars false
FIVE WOMEN. ONE NIGHT. ONE YEAR TO GET IT RIGHT.

Betrayed and abandoned by a cheating husband, Jessie wants nothing more than a fling—until handsome detective Mick Landers finds both her missing son and the way to win “forever.”
"Jessie had never been bold when it came to men, but last night, after Mick had kissed her, she’d made a firm decision. Mick was her chosen target. Just the thought of pursuing an affair with him made her feel like a new woman. A new sexy, free woman.
Her BFF Heather had been so right. Jessie needed a fling to jump start her single life. Divorce sex had been Heather's term. And after Mick, who knew? Maybe she’d find another guy and do it again. Maybe she’d become a serial--what? Flinger? Was that even a word?
She grinned. It was now."

Review

****This book is part of a blog tour, I received a copy in exchange for my honest review****

This book starts out with Jessica going to a New Years Eve party at her friends’ house, the next morning the make a list of qualities the perfect man for them would have. Jessica recently moved back to San Diego with her two children, her husband left her and she is emotionally messed up because of this. She doesn't want anything series so when she meets the hot cop Mick, she decides to have a post divorce fling. When things start to get series she has to decide if she is willing to open up and possibly be hurt again. Jessica was a smart, responsible, loving and a wonderful mother. Mick was a hot cop, who never let anyone get close. He always put the job first, when he meets Jessica his thinking begins to change. I liked the beginning of this book and the close friendship Jessica shares with Heather. I did want to see more interactions between Jessica and her other friends though. Jessica earned my respect when she decided not to mix her fling and her kids; she didn't want her kids to have another person leave them. I was disappointed when the relationship started to get series and Jessica still refused to let Mick interact with her kids. The sex scenes were mild/hot, a few of the scenes were more telling instead of showing.  I enjoyed the simplicity of this book, it was a straight forward love story.

Boys of Summer

Title: The Boys of Summer
Author: C.J. Duggan
Release date: December 17th 2012
Genre: Romance
Age Group: New Adult

It seemed only natural to nickname them the ‘Onslow Boys’. Every time they swaggered in the front door of the Onslow Hotel after a hard week’s work, their laughter was loud and genuine as they settled onto their bar stools. I peeked through the restaurant partition, a flimsy divider between my world and theirs. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I saw them, saw him ... Toby Morrison. Quiet seventeen-year-old Tess doesn’t relish the thought of a summertime job. She wants nothing more than to forget the past haunts of high school and have fun with her best friends before the dreaded Year Twelve begins. To Tess, summer is when everything happens: riding bikes down to the lake, watching the fireworks at the Onslow Show and water bomb fights at the sweltering Sunday markets. How did she let her friends talk her into working? After first-shift disasters, rude, wealthy tourists and a taunting ex-boyfriend, Tess is convinced nothing good can come of working her summer away. However, Tess finds unlikely allies in a group of locals dubbed ‘The Onslow Boys’, who are old enough to drive cars, drink beer and not worry about curfews. Tess’s summer of working expands her world with a series of first times with new friends, forbidden love and heartbreaking chaos. All with the one boy she has never been able to forget. It will be a summer she will always remember. Warning: sexual references and occasional course language.

Moon rays filtered through the windshield, giving the cabin an otherworldly glow.
Toby’s perfect teeth were illuminated when he smiled. “You know, you are the worst winner!” He shook his head. “Ever since you won the bet, you’ve been apologising. Just go with it, enjoy it, because I assure you, next time …” - he leaned closer - “… you will not be the winner.” He pulled back, smug.
I curved a brow. “Next time?”
He nodded. “I fully intend to redeem myself.”
“Want a chance to rebuild your shattered ego, do you? I bet you’re itching to fix my bike so you can be rid of me once and for all.” I shouldered him gently, teasing him as I would Adam. And then I realised what I had done; I had treated him like my friends. He looked down at his shoulder, then up at me. His eyes shadowed with untold meanings that I couldn’t read.
“What if I didn’t want to fix your bike?” he said in all seriousness.
“Why, is my company so stimulating that you can’t bear the thought of being without me?” I teased nervously.
I was aiming for light and airy, but something must have gone wrong with my delivery because Toby’s face went blank. He looked out into the lights of Onslow, ran his tongue over his bottom lip and sighed.

Brother's Keeper

The following review is for 18+ readers.
Brother's Keeper
5 of 5 stars false

Trapped in a web of hate with no escape, a young woman discovers her attraction to the man determined to protect her may be her undoing. Will time run out, or will he find a way to protect her before her abusive father kills her?
When Rowan is awarded a ballet scholarship to Michigan State University during her senior year of high school, her life’s dream is finally realized. Having lost her mother at an early age and being subjected to the abuse of a destitute drunken father, she has known unimaginable loss and heartache and been left wanting for a better life—a life now within her grasp. But with one ill-fated phone call, her life is turned upside down.
Logan is Rowan's best friend’s older brother whose career is taking off as he prepares to graduate law school and move cross-country to the prestigious law firm that has offered him a very lucrative contract. When Rowan finds herself at Logan’s mercy after he inadvertently learns of the abuse she has suffered at the hands of her father, their lives become intertwined in a way neither ever imagined nor wanted.
In an effort to protect her, but with his own hands tied by her unwillingness to report the abuse, Logan strikes a deal requiring Rowan to stay with him whenever there is a chance her father might be on a drunken binge—which is often. For her agreement and cooperation, he will keep her secret. Soon, their time together weighs on them both, and they find themselves constantly tempted to step outside the bounds of their supposed platonic relationship. But there is no point. The devastating fact of the matter is their lives are moving in opposite directions—a relationship destined to die before it even has a chance to live.

The ever present clock plagues them both as it ticks off the days until they are parted. But one all important question remains—after he leaves, how will he protect her from a father intent on hating her until the day he dies … or the day he kills her?
Review
Wow, and amazing, heart wrenching love story.
The story of Rowan is a tragic one, her mother dies in a car accident when she is young and she is left to a father who never wanted her and goes about making her life a nightmare. Brutal beatings and verbal abuse are unfortunately the norm for this unlucky girl.
Rowans one joy in life is her best friend Sara and through her, Sara's entire family, the Harrington’s. Ronnie, Marcus and their children Sara and Logan become Rowans family in every way they can, or as much as Rowan will let them. Not wanting to be a leech or a burden she never tells them the truth of her situation.
This all changes when one night Rowans dad beats her and she phones Sara's phone to come and pick her up...... she gets Logan. The story of this couple starts here, with Logan's wanting to protect Rowan from her father and the struggles they are faced when after all the time they spend with each other, they fall in love.
This story was amazing, my eyes were glued to every word on every page I quite simply loved it.
It is a very emotional read as you can imagine with the issues that are dealt that I have already mentioned. Child abuse is a horrible thing and if only they all had protectors like Logan. He really did try his best, the struggle to keep from wanting Rowan was hard, I could feel it.
My heart bled for Rowan as the younger one in the relationship she constantly felt a bit out of her depths. I thought this was translated wonderfully. These characters couldn't have been more real to me. It is in cases like this, when I get characters that are so vivid that they just jump out of the page and into my mind that my reading experience is at its peak, my enjoyment at its fullest.
I cannot write this review and not comment on the amazing love scenes in this book. Steamy, raunchy and hot, however, foreplay has never been written better in my mind, and when this couple finally made love it was emotional. The words spoken by Logan to Rowan were beautiful and bittersweet. I struggled to read with the tears streaming... it was just so hard to take but so sexy at the same time. Logan is quite simply an amazing character, a better man could not be found for Rowan that is for sure and she will never be left wanting *wink wink*.
So I have gushed about how much I loved this book and I am sorry but I just couldn't help it. I think if you give this a try you will be the same. It is touching, heart warming, and leaves you satisfied with the conclusion. Contemporary romance at it's best.

Dark Promise

 3 of 5 stars false
Rylie has it all - great friends, dream boy, loving family. But on the eve of her sixteenth birthday, her perfect little world shatters. A stranger claiming to be her real mother appears with a secret: Rylie is a faery whose powers will be unleashed on her birthday. Captured and forced into a new life, Rylie struggles to keep everything she loves and discovers a terrifying truth: some promises cannot be broken.

Review

**** I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.****

Rylie is a normal fifteen year old girl, a few days before her sixteenth birthday she begins to have really bad headaches. The night before her birthday a woman comes to her house and Rylie finds out that she is a fairy and that the dark faeries want her for the incredible power she will have one she finishes her transformation. Rylie gets kidnapped and taken to the dark fairy land; she is told she must marry Kallan. Rylie loves her boyfriends Adam but she starts to have feelings about Kallan, Rylie has to figure out who she really wants. I liked this book a lot, Rylie is a really good main female character. She makes the best of her situation, without completely accepting it; she still tries to find different ways to get home. Adam was a sweet normal boy, everything a mom wants in her daughters’ boyfriend. Kallan was a bit darker, he seemed like a jerk at first, but once you got to know him he was a really great person. The writing was good and the suspense kept me interested. This book had a lot going for it; I would have given it five stars, except two things really bugged me. One I am pretty burned out on the love triangle, I have read to many books with a love triangle, now every time I read a book with one in it, it automatically makes me cringe. The second problem was the ending, I know this book is supposed to be part of a series, but I it still bugged me that the book left me with a lot of questions. Overall this is a pretty good book; if you like books with fairies and don't mind a love triangle then you will really enjoy these books.

Interview with Elizabeth:

 1. For someone who has been eyeing your books for a while but still never tried one, what one of your books would you suggest them to read?
Well, it would depend on exactly what you were in the market for. My first release, The Devil’s Pawn, is darker and grittier. Some have likened it to The Dark Duets, while others say it’s not nearly so dark. I’ve never read that series, so I can’t say one way or the other. I personally think it’s suspenseful and hard to put down. My second, Brother’s Keeper, is sweeter but a bit heartbreaking at times. The age difference of my H/h has caused some controversy – though I personally can’t imagine why… My third which has been my most popular but also most criticized… yes, I have no problem admitting that, is straight good old fashion contemporary smut – perhaps a bit angsty at times, but a good quick read. Of course, you could wait until 2/25/13 and read Immortal Protector – my first paranormal. It’s a contemporary paranormal erotic romance, and I’m really excited for it to release. I haven’t helped you decide what to read at all, have I?… LOL

2. As an author if you could be any author, if she is envious or could have written any story, who and what would it be?
This is going to move outside the realm of erotic romance, but I’m fanatical about J.K. Rowling, and the Harry Potter series. The world she created is amazing, and I can’t imagine having that level of creativity. I envy writers who can create entire worlds and do it as effectively as she did. I love writing contemporary because I love a believable story that feels like real life. BUT BUT BUT, I also enjoy escaping into other worlds, and as a writer, creating those other worlds isn’t my strongest ability.

3. The book Brother's Keeper has a somewhat taboo relationship in it, were you worried that people would not read your books because of this?
Truthfully, I didn’t worry about it at all. I started writing that story five years ago, and I was writing completely for myself without any thought of publishing it. I wrote about a third of the book and then put it away for years. I literally almost deleted it from my computer multiple times. I wasn’t considering a career in writing at that time. I was too busy working my tail off, starting a family, and pretty much anything other than writing. It wasn’t until I pulled it out years later and decided to finish it that I even had to consider that a 17 year old heroine paired with a 25 year old hero might ruffle some feathers. In my defense… She was 18 before any sort of sexual relationship started, and she was 18 ½ when she actually lost her virginity… (Sorry – spoiler) That darn near makes her a prude by today’s standards! When I write, I tend not to really consider if what I’m writing is going to offend someone, because truthfully, you will ALWAYS offend someone, and I don’t personally feel a writer should compromise on writing the story they want to write. I’m not ever offended when people say they don’t like something I’ve written. That’s probably odd, but I’m just not.

4. Have you ever had to rewrite a sex scene for being too racy? (yes I know that I already know that answer to this question, but not everyone does)
Oh, yes indeed!! And I wasn’t happy about it. I get it; I really do get it. Publishers have to consider what the masses will want to see and not a smaller niche that may appreciate certain … hmm … descriptive language about certain aspects of sex. Some think it’s sexy, some think it’s over the top. I have my personal preferences about what is sexy, what shows a particular level of intimacy, etc., but I’m not always going to be in line with the majority out there. I’m happy with the edited scene, but I still miss the original scene. After going through the editing process more times than I can recall, I’m used to it!

5. Your first paranormal romance book is coming out on Feb 25, Immortal Protector, what made you decide to write a book in that genre?
Well I love to read paranormal, and the story itself had been floating around in my head for a few years. I find I’m drawn to particular stories rather than particular genres, and I have stories in my brain from nearly all genres. I was just ready to write this story now. I will say, my take on paranormal is using paranormal elements in a contemporary setting. I’m not creating worlds or taking anyone to a new plane of existence.

6. What book has the best sex scene you have ever read?
Good question!! And I’m not sure I can even begin to answer it. I started reading romance in the historical genre years and years ago, so I have so many nostalgic feelings for some of those authors and scenes. I hate to not really answer the question, but I find that I love a particular scene in a book, but once I’m on to the next book, I fall in love all over with another scene. I truly can’t whittle it down to one scene in one book that was so impacting that I would place it above others.

7. Which authors have influenced your writing the most?
Every single last author I’ve read has shaped me in some way or another. My love for romance fiction started with historical romance, and I fell in love with Iris Johansen’s novels. So, from the perspective of what sparked my love for romance fiction, I have Ms. Johansen to thank.

8. Favorite fictional male character and why?
I’m actually going to refer to one of my own, and he is from an upcoming book - Angus Scott from the second book in The Immortals series, Immortal Distraction. I’m sooooo in love with Angus’ character. He is one smooth cat, he doesn’t get ruffled easily, and he is so seductively good at toying with his lady. I had a great time writing his character.
