Justice 18+

The following review is for 18+ readers
  Justice (Jessica Ford, #2)
4 of 5 stars false
Feisty criminal attorney Jessica Ford has done her best to comply with the orders of the Secret Service's unofficial witness protection program ever since she became the lone witness to the First Lady's murder. Unfortunately, winning her first high-profile case for a prestigious Washington, D.C., law firm, subsequently landing her face all over the news, is not exactly ?keeping a low profile.? Or so says hunky Secret Service agent Mark Ryan, whose newest assignment is keeping her safe at all costs. It just so happens he's also her ex-boyfriend. The trial earns Jess a permanent spot on the firm's legal defense team, replacing an associate who eloped and never came back. But Jess's mind has raced from the moment the prosecution's star witness shocked the courtroom with a revelation involving the handsome son of a powerful U.S. senator. Was the pretty young mother intimidated into changing her story on the stand? Why won't she return Jess's calls? Did Jess's predecessor really just abandon her successful career? Or did both women mysteriously disappear? After Mark rescues Jess from an attack outside her apartment, she begins to consider the possibility that she is a target. Maybe it's not so bad to have her irresistibly charming and hard-bodied former lover around for protection. The question is, which of the many inadvertent enemies Jess has made recently is he protecting her from? The investigation leads her to some startling coincidences ? and to a teenage runaway who may just hold the missing link...if Jess can find her

Review

Jessica is in a pseudo witness protection program, but she just won her first high profile case and is now all over the news. Her ex Mark is assigned to keep her safe, he still wants to be with her, and she wants to kill him. Jessica gets a spot on the legal team and she can’t get over how the victim of a rape recanted on the stand. She thinks the witness has been threatened and she can’t let it go. The woman who she replaced, who just up and married, has her worried to. Jessica gets attacked by her apartment and Mark saves her, now someone is trying to kill her and Jessica is having a hard time dealing with the fact that she still loves Mark. Once again someone is trying to kill her and she doesn’t know who or why. I liked Jessica in this book more than the last one, she has grown some teeth. She stills has some serious issues with her looks, but she seems surer of herself. Mark is the same as he was in the last book, except his stance on relationships has changed. I liked hearing how their relationship had broken apart then ultimately became stronger. I did like the mystery, but I was able to figure out who was behind it easier this time than last. I had a little bit of a problem with the added paranormal aspect to the book. The whole seeing a ghost just detracted from the story for me. Overall the book was really good; I would like to see one last book with Jessica and Mark in it.
