A Crazy Homecoming

A Crazy Homecoming (Crazy Texas, #1)
 4 of 5 stars false1/2
Getting fired over a workplace meltdown was bad enough, but getting dumped at the exact same time by her boyfriend-slash-boss was the ultimate humiliation. With no real friends in L.A. and perennially absent parents, Daphne Simms has no one to turn to. To heal her heart, she runs to the only true home she’s ever known—her grandmother’s rural Texas ranch, called Crazy. She knows ranch folks will be a far cry from those she's known in L.A., but she certainly doesn’t expect to be greeted by a cranky cowboy shoving a shotgun in her face.
Mick Williams has lived and worked on Crazy for twenty years. Though he’s utterly devoted to Daphne’s grandmother, he’ll be damned if he’s gonna let a city slicker like Daphne sashay in and disrupt his nice, quiet life. When the future of Crazy is threatened, Mick and Daphne must join forces to keep the ranch afloat, but the heat of their attraction makes working together more complicated than either of them imagines.
When their physical and emotional connection deepens, Mick tries to turn away from the woman he’s convinced he doesn’t deserve, so Daphne has to pull out all the stops to convince him that the heart of Crazy is big enough for the both of them.

Review

****The author provided me with a copy of this book for my honest review****
Daphne's life has crumbled; she had a meltdown at work and was fired by her boyfriend/boss so she runs to the only place she has ever called home, Crazy Ranch. She arrives in the middle of the night only to have some cowboy point a shotgun at her. Mick is like family to Daphne's grandmother, her Nana saved him twenty years ago and he has been at Crazy ever since. The two of them have undeniable physical chemistry, but when emotions get involved Mick starts to pull back. Can Mick get past his insecurities; will Daphne be able to convince him that he is worth her love and Crazy Ranch? The first pages of this book had me giggling; it was a cute funny book from the beginning. It kind of reminded me of an eighties romance novel, not cliché or anything it just had that sort of wholesome but with a hint of naughty feel to it. Daphne was a strong heroine her life may have fallen apart, but she doesn't wallow in this she adapts and tries her hardest to help out at the ranch. I have conflicting feelings about Mick I liked him, but at the same time I wanted to smack him for not seeing what was in front of his face. My favorite character had to be Nana; she was hilarious and had so much spunk. The storyline itself wasn't very complex there wasn't a lot of drama, it's a light read. This was my first Cate Baylor book and I am hooked, if the rest of her books are half as good as this one she is sure to become one of my go to authors.

Fire in the Darkness

Fire in the Darkness by Stacey Marie Brown
New Adult Paranormal Romance
Published August 31, 2013 by Twisted Fairy Publishing
It's been four weeks since Ember Brycin witnessed what her powers are capable of. The Electrical Current Storm has turned Seattle, Washington into a natural disaster zone. The death toll is in the thousands with countless others homeless and hungry.
And Ember is the one who caused it. Something she will have to live with every day.
Those people who were unable to escape either turned quickly into gangs or live in shelters. Ember, on the other hand, can’t do either. With a price on her head and a Dark Dweller on her ass, she is constantly on the move. Both Light and Dark are hunting her for their own purpose to use her as a weapon or a pawn in the war between the Unseelie King of the Dark and the Seelie Queen of the Light.
Em needs help but doesn’t know who to trust: Lars, the mystery man Torin told her to find? Torin, the Seelie Queen’s personal knight, who has sworn to keep Em safe? Or Eli, who wants to turn her over to the Unseelie King, but whom she has an undeniable, intense connection with?
No matter what she chooses she will probably lose—her life or everything and everyone she loves.

About Stacey

Stacey Marie Brown by day is an Interior/Set Designer, by night a writer of Paranormal Fantasy, Adventure, and Literary Fiction. She grew up in Northern California, where she ran around on her family’s farm, raising animals, riding horses, playing flashlight tag, and turning hay bales into cool forts. Even before she could write, she was creating stories and making up intricate fantasies. Writing came as easy as breathing. She later turned that passion into acting, living and traveling abroad, and designing. Though she had never stopped writing, moving back to San Francisco seemed to have brought it back to the forefront and this time it would not be ignored.
When she’s not writing she’s out hiking, spending time with friends, traveling, listening to music, or designing.
