Allusive Aftershock

Allusive Aftershock
3 of 5 stars false
What happens when a major earthquake changes life as you know it and the boy you thought you hated ends up saving you? Three times!
Courtland Reese is the guy everyone hates and makes fun of because … well, he is weird. He communicates with animals. Strange or interesting, seventeen-year-old Adela Castielle can’t quite figure out, but when he saves her from being trampled by her own horse, she begins to understand him a little better and wants to learn more about him.
But, Max--her best friend/dream guy/someday-to-be-her-husband-only-he-doesn’t-know-it-yet--hates Courtland with a passion. Adela wants to know why, except neither boy is talking.
When Max leaves her stranded in his parents' wine cave with his worst enemy, Courtland, after what the experts are calling a “megathrust” earthquake, Adela starts to question her loyalty to Max as steamy kisses in a dark damp cellar only fuel her emotions with more conflict.
But does she really have time to worry about that when fire, destruction and mayhem surround her?

Excerpt

With no electricity, I could barely make out the two figures standing by the door to the cellar. If not for the half moon, I would not have been able to see them at all. I stepped up to them and realized they were staring up at the sky and my eyes naturally followed their gaze. I had never seen such an awesome sight. Without any city lights for miles and miles, the stars in the sky were unusually bright and plentiful. A truly beautiful sight.

“Wow,” I whispered, standing between Max and Court. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Court’s focus change and he stared down at me. There was something strange about the way his eyes bored into me, as if he could see into my soul. I waited for him to look away but he held his gaze on me while I pretended to marvel at the sky. I’d never seen him stare at me that way before and I got nervous. My fingers fidgeted with each other and I clamped two of them in my other hand to steady them. If I hadn’t known better, I never would have guessed in a million years he had injuries. His eyes stayed fixed on me with an intense tenderness I had never seen from a boy before. Maybe Courtland Reese wasn’t so bad after all. Standing between the two of them in all their glorious hotness had my stomach doing flip-flops. I knew it was wrong to think these things under the circumstances, but maybe my mind just needed the distraction … or confusion. I loved Max, but I was beginning to like Courtland too. Man, I was in so much trouble.

Review

****This book was part of a blog tour, I received a copy for my honest review****
Adela lives in a rural area with her parents and twin sibling, her life is almost perfect, if only her her best friend Max would realize she was in love with him. They have been friends for years, on the sidelines is Courtland, people think he is a freak because he is so good with animals. A huge earthquake happens, Court saves Adela from her horse, aftershocks change everyones lives. When Max leaves Adela alone with Court in a cellar the two of them grow close and their relationship changes. Adela starts questioning her feelings for Max and the new feelings she is developing for Court. I liked this book, Adela started out as a somewhat spoiled naive girl and developed into a smart woman. Court was a hot, sweet knight in shining armor. Max was a jerk, I really hated the dude, he irritated me to no end.  The semi post apocalyptic plotline was interesting and had some very sad moments in it. The romance between Courtland and Adela was cute, the two of them had a lot in common. I really liked the book right up until the end, the ending seemed really rushed and I felt like it didn't fit in with the tone of the rest of the book.  I read it, flipped back and read it again hoping that maybe I had missed something. If the ending had not been so rushed or it had an epilogue, this book would have been a solid five stars. It was entertaining, I liked most of the characters and it was a quick read. I did like how descriptive the author was so I am going to be putting her on my watch list.

Excerpt
I glanced over at the keg and saw that Aaron and his two groupies were still standing there drinking and laughing. The girls were practically throwing themselves at him and he seemed to be enjoying every minute of it. When he caught me looking at him and our eyes met, I saw a flash of something dark behind his rock star façade. Was it pain? Was he not really enjoying all of the attention from the beautiful blondes as it appeared? The look was only there for a moment and then it disappeared when the blonde at his left whispered something in his ear, which made him grin, but Aaron was still staring at me. The scene both disgusted and confused me. When he winked at me and gave me a sly smile, I felt sick to my stomach. Did he actually think he could flirt with me while two girls were hanging off him? I revolted.
“Can we go into the other room?” I asked. “It’s getting stuffy in here.”
“Sure.” Josh looked around. “Or do you want to go outside? You can see the stars in the backyard and it’s a beautiful night?’
The stars sounded really good. The only problem was that we had to walk past Aaron and his girls to get out the back door.
“Let’s go outside,” I said. “If you don’t mind leading the way.”
“My pleasure,” Josh said as he placed his empty beer cup on the counter.
I made sure that Josh was on the side that would be closest to Aaron as we passed. It didn’t stop Aaron from staring at me as we walked by him. The blondes seemed oblivious to the attention he was giving me and I made sure I had the most vile and disgusted look on my face as we passed. For a moment, he looked like I had slapped him but he quickly covered it up.
When we got outside, Josh asked. “Do you know that guy?”
“What guy?” I replied even though I knew exactly, who he meant.
“The guy from The Clubhouse with the blondes hanging all over him.”
I shrugged. “Sort of.”
Josh looked very concerned. “Is there something going on between the two of you?”
I gave a chuckle as if it was the most absurd question in the world. “Why would you ask that?”
“Just the way he looked at you. Even though he had two girls on his arms, it was like he didn’t even care. He was just staring at you.”
I tried to minimize what Josh was saying. “We’re just partners in my art history class. We were assigned to work on a project together. That’s all.”
“Are you sure?”
“Of course,” I said but I wasn’t sure at all.

Belong To You

I was born and raised in New York. I've been told I have a New York accent, on more than one occasion. It is pronounced cawfee, not coffee, right? But of course, being a true New Yawka, I believe everyone else has the accent.

I am one of six children, and come from a family of "steps, halves, ours, theirs and his" children. Even though the oldest of the six is only 48, we have given my incredible mom 17 grandchildren. I have three children, two girls and a boy. My son is the oldest and is a godsend. The girls, well, they are tweens and make me drink too much wine on occasion.

I am an attorney by day, and a romance author by night! I published my first book in 2013, First Thing I See and was thrilled at the overwhelming success! My next book, Belong to You, is due out April 4, 2013, and I have the hots for the man on the cover. ]

I consider myself a romance author, but my books definitely have steam in them, so I guess I am technically a romance-erotica author. I am also a HUGE reader and love Sylvia Day, Kristen Ashely, and EL James.

My other loves are boating, jetskiing, parking my ass at the beach and traveling. My dream vacation is a backpack, passport and an open ticket to anywhere we can explore! I don't cook, pretty much because I am terrible at it, and I have no desire to improve.

Thank you for taking the time to read about me, and I hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I like writing them!

The Vincent Boys Extended and Uncut

The Vincent Boys: Extended and Uncut (The Vincent Boys, #1)
5 of 5 stars false
Beau Vincent is rude, bad, and dangerous to know. So why can't good girl Ashton Gray keep away from him? She already has the perfect boyfriend - her town's local Prince Charming, Sawyer Vincent. But Sawyer is away for the summer, and in the meantime Ashton is bored, and the heat between her and Beau is undeniable - as well as irresistible. Ashton is about to unleash her bad girl - but what will she do when Sawyer comes home? And how will Sawyer react when he returns to find his girlfriend in the arms of his best friend - and cousin?

Review

Ashton Gray had been friends with Beau and Sawyer Vincent since early grade school.
Born mischief makers Ashton and Beau had a special connection getting themselves into all sorts of trouble, leaving Sawyer to get them out of it.
None of them wanted anything to change, but of course it does. As they grow up the boys start to notice Ashton change, as boys will. Now a beautiful young woman the boys both secretly yearn for her, but only one steps forward and claims her.
With the relationship between Ash and Sawyer, Beau gets left behind, he doesn't want to see the girl he loves with his cousin and so he follows his own path.
Three years later Ash has moulded herself into the perfect girlfriend of the towns Prince Charming. But Sawyer isn't in town, he is away on family vacation, and while he is away Beau and Ash pick up their friendship, reconnecting. Except this time Ash realises that maybe the other Vincent boy is the boy she should have never left behind, maybe he is the one that understands her best. Maybe she chose the wrong Vincent boy.
"You noticed anything different about Ash?"
The way this story starts out with the boys talking between themselves when they are ten, discussing their concerns over the unavoidable changes that they were about to go through...was just perfect. It truly set the stage for what was sure to be a great story of childhood friendship and love, lost and found.
The reconnection of Beau and Ash was really special, I was excited and nervous the whole time, their relationship felt unique and fully formed right from the beginning, like it was just right.
Thanks for last night. I've missed you. He simply signed it 'B'
I loved how we got both Beau and Ash's point of views, it was great to have the insight into the loneliness and the feelings of want on Beau's side and also the mounting pressure on Ash to do the right thing, but also do what she wanted. Beau truly had loved her from the beginning , you get to see how he accepted her for who she truly was, not who she had become, and of course that was hugely important to the exhausted pretender Ash.
He'd always had everything I didn't have. The perfect parents, home life, but none of that mattered because I had Ashton. Sure, we all three were friends but Ash had been mine. She'd been my partner in crime, the one person I told all my dreams and fears to, my soul mate. Then just like everything else in Sawyer's perfect life, he got my girl. The only thing I'd thought I could call mine had become his.
Beau's character was a classic portrayal of what every girl wants when growing up, the bad boy, the misunderstood boy, with the protective instinct and a heart of gold that beats only for her. Of course my teenage heart (it is still in there!) just melted for him.
This book is hands down the best Young Adult story I have ever read. Abbi Glines, with her characters managed to transport me back to my teenage years, I felt all nostalgic.
Even thought the themes of cheating can be hard to read, this was delivered so well that you really wanted the happy ending for the couple, you knew they didn't want to hurt Sawyer. I was fully involved in this teenage love story and even though I read the extended and uncut version, I would still say that this is an acceptable Young Adult book with nothing to explicit. I have totally not done this book justice, so I will end my review by just stating that I loved it! It is a sweet bittersweet romance and it shouldn't be missed, read it.
