Stained
“Is that why you were living in the same city as me and you never came to see me?” I asked a little bit more accusatorially than I meant to. “Why didn’t Mandy call me or come to see me?”
His jaw seemed to harden as he looked over the top of his sunglasses. “Do you want to know about me or Mandy?”
I rolled my eyes. “You know what I mean.”
“Maybe I was just admiring you from afar as I always have.” Revell merged onto the highway in the direction of Crossroads.
I snorted. “What’s Mandy’s excuse?”
Revell took one hand off the steering wheel and rubbed the back of his neck. “She took Daddy’s death hard and she’s been busy with school there.”
“So for some reason, which you won’t explain to me, one of few people I consider a true and loyal friend came to live in my home town and she didn’t even want to see me?”
Revell sighed. “Since you didn’t come here when Daddy died, maybe she thought your friendship was over.”
“Is that what you thought? That our friendship was over?”
“We weren’t friends, Scarlett, don’t fool yourself into believing that!”
“Then I’d like to know what we were?” I countered angrily.
He wouldn’t look at me, and his voice was rough and tense when he spoke. “You knew I’ve wanted you in every way a man can want a woman since you were fifteen.”
“Friendship is better than nothing, especially when what you wanted to happen between us was completely inappropriate.”
“It was only wrong if it was one sided or if I’d acted on it when you were under age.”
“The summer I was fifteen and Mamaw found us in the deer stand you came pretty close to you going to jail.”
“The age of consent in Alabama is bit lower than it is up North.”
“You were twenty, it was a crush on an older man on my part. What was it on your part?”
Revell paused, turned, and looked me up and down. “It was I’m going to rot in hell because I want a minor or I’m going to die a slow death because I don’t believe I can live without her.”
I grumbled in disbelief, “And yet here you are perfectly healthy and happy.”
“You were the one who just said that I don’t smile the way I used to.”
I moved away from his ire closer to the door. “Are you blaming me?”
“I’m not blaming anyone, I’m just trying to tell you how I feel because you wouldn’t let me tell you back then, and you never came back to let me explain how it was.” Revell sighed. “Why didn’t you come when I wrote you?”
“I couldn’t.”
“Couldn’t or wouldn’t?”
“Couldn’t, Revell, couldn’t.”

The Shadow of Mudflap
Links: Tour Goodreads Amazon
B&N Kobo ARE Smashwords

Mudflap Davidson wakes up thinking today is just like any day as a fire fighter. That is until he gets the call that lands his partner in ICU, meets the woman that can knock him on his ass, and finds out he just got involved in something that he never saw coming. Mudflap's about to get tossed into a world of secret forces with hidden agendas, government agencies that technically don't exist, and people all around him leading double lives.
The Shadow of Mudflap was a blast to read, very fast paced and detailed without bombarding you. Mudflap and Shanae were great characters, well developed, and very relatable. It was nice to read characters who were comfortable in who they are. While neither was perfect we didn't spend chapters reading about their issues and past transgressions, they showed their flaws and did the best with them. That's not to say we didn't get a history on both characters, it just wasn't embellished to the point of outrageousness.
The story was edgy and gave you a look into first responders that made you feel like you were really along for the ride. I never guessed the ending, which was a nice treat for an active reader. All in all a very promising start for this suspense series!
To us,
first responders are heroes. But for them, risking their lives is a normal,
everyday thing.
Mudflap:
Born the
baby of the family, Mudflap has always had something to prove to emerge out of
the shadows of his older siblings. He spent eight years as a Special Ops elite
sniper and is now a firefighter. But at his heart, he’s just a normal West
Texas good old boy who loves his beer, women and football, until the Department
of Defense calls him up to say they need his skills again.
Shanae:
Shanae is a
first responder of a different sort. She’s a trauma nurse who works on a
medical evacuation helicopter team. But while she lives a life full of
adrenaline every day, it’s just a cover for her real life, where she hides in
the shadows and is secret agent, Shadowfox for the Lubbock Foxtrot Team (LiFT).
She’s living the kind of life that most people think exists only in movies and
books.
Working for
two different branches of the government, Mudflap and Shanae are in a race
against time and the terrorists who threaten the very heart of West Texas life,
football. They’re working toward the same goal, but find themselves in a
confrontation against each other and the lies they’ve each had to hide behind.
Can love win out in the end or will the cost be each other and their very
lives?
First
responders are heroes every day, but this story tells the tale of when they
become even more and find love along the way. The key is for them to stay alive
so that they can complete their mission and just maybe live happily ever after.
On an ordinary day, they save lives.
On an extraordinary day, they save the country.

How Our
Partnership Evolved by Christi Snow
I’ll admit. I NEVER thought I would ever be a person to write a book with someone else. Honestly, I just don’t play well with others. That is a huge part of the reason I’m a writer where the only thing I have to interact with all day is my computer. But that was before Mudflap, aka M.F. Smith, entered my world.
When this whole thing began, I didn’t even know Mudflap. In this modern world, he was one of my Facebook friends. The only thing I truly knew about him was that somehow he was family on my mom’s side because all our common friends were family (I’m obviously VERY discriminating about who I “friend” on FB…lol).
But one day, he sent me a message on Facebook because he knew I was a romance writer. Mudflap is a radio personality in Lubbock, TX. Every year, he creates a product through his radio show to sell for charity. With the surge of the romance novel with the popularity of Fifty Shades, he decided that he needed to write a romance novel this year, but had no idea where to even begin. His message to me was a call for help.
I had no idea what I was getting into when I answered it.
The project was an evolution during development. When we first began, I was simply going to guide M.F. as he wrote, but that quickly moved to me writing the story as a ghostwriter. Then eventually we became co-authors. Overall, I wrote the book, but M.F. was very involved from the very beginning. The core of the characters are from him. He sent me a list of twelve characters with their names, ages, and occupations. I built the story from there. And every day he would read the story and give me feedback as well as ideas about how to make it better. He has an incredible intuition about what works and truly made every day of the writing process fun. I never knew what he was going to come up with from one day to the next and over the course of the process have exchanged thousands of texts and emails.
We knew going into it that this book would be romantic suspense because that’s what I enjoy writing and I thought it would be fun to go completely over the top with super-spies/agents. When he sent me that original character list, Mudflap (the hero) was listed as a fireman and Shanae (the heroine) was a nurse and that developed our first-responders theme.
The premise of the story is that there is a covert part of the federal government, Lubbock Foxtrot Team (LiFT), who hide in plain sight under the cover of Lift EMS Contracting. They provide emergency medical services, both ambulance and air, to the Lubbock area. All the agents are highly-trained medical personnel. But they are also highly trained secret agents for the federal government fighting terrorism for the Department of Homeland Security in the Southwest. Their motto is: On an ordinary day, they save lives; On an extraordinary day, they save the country.
It’s been an incredible journey for both of us. We are both really excited about where the final book ended up and hope to write 2-3 more in the series over the next three years. We hope to make this an ongoing charity project for the Lubbock Red Cross. And the best news, I finally got to meet M.F. in person at the beginning of June. He’s even nicer in person.
As an avid reader her entire life, Christi Snow always dreamed of writing books that brought to others the kind of joy she felt when she read. But...she never did anything about it besides jot down a few ideas and sparse scenes. When she turned 41, she decided it was time to go after her dream and started writing. Within four months, she'd written over 150,000 words and hasn't stopped since. She's found her calling by writing about sexy, alpha heroes and smart, tough heroines falling in love and finding their passion. She's truly living the dream and loving every minute of it. Her tagline is... Passion and adventure on the road to Happily Ever After. She's loving this adventure!

Mudflap is a morning show personality for 96.3 KLLL in Lubbock, TX. He’s been on the morning show for seven years and in radio for over ten years. He’s entertained people all over the world, and has helped raise money for many non-profit agencies and charities. Mudflap loves to see people smile and believes everyone deserves a hug.

Bio:
Author L.U. Ann recently moved to Colorado from the Eastern Shore of Maryland with her husband and two children. Life in Colorado is so much different. In Maryland, you would find her in the garden tending to her vegetables and flowers, sea glass and shark tooth hunting once a week, and enjoying the kids swimming in the backyard. Her life took a drastic change when her family moved to their own “Little House on the Prairie" at an elevation of over 6,000 feet above sea level, and a semi-arid climate that makes it hard to grow anything. While barely anything can grow where she resides now, the wildlife makes up for it. Mountain Lions, and coyotes, and rattlesnakes, oh my!
She tries to spend a little time each day writing, but domestic chores around the house usually take precedence. She would much rather hide them from her husband. She tends to her loving four-legged children who at times become much too demanding when she locks herself in the office. This often results in MORE domestic work, and she finds herself cleaning up after their deviant behavior.
At night, you’ll find her begging the kids to go to bed so that she can catch up on the latest book before her sister can. Yes, she is an avid reader who escapes her chaotic but wonderful home to the feisty depths of romance land in search of her newest book boyfriend. Shh, don’t tell her husband!
She is an artist by the grace of God. She worked as a set designer for six years, helping establish a local children's theatre where she was the scenery artist, set, and prop designer. Before that, you would find her covered in paint, so engrossed in painting a mural that time didn't exist. Graphic design is her guilty pleasure.
Destructive Silence is her debut novel. It is one of three books in The Destructive Series. Each book will hit its reader with lots of angst hoping for a happily ever after.

“Shhh, and let me finish my diagnosis,” he says.
My cheeks grow hot.
“You’re flushed,” he nods and tries to suppress a growing smile. He puts his hands on my shoulders and leans my head back against the pillow, kneeling and towering over me. “I have to listen to your heart.”
“No,” I retort weakly, not in the mood to play with him. Not when it always has to end with me tense and aroused and needy. He loves to tease me, and I worry about the day where I won’t have the strength to say no.
He ignores me and places his ear to the bareness of my collarbone, the place peeking from my V-neck shirt. I inhale a sharp breath, his face too near. After a long moment, he rises a little and says, “I knew it.”
My eyes narrow. “Knew what?”
His hot gaze traces my lips, and then flits back up to my eyes. “You’re suffering from a clear case of...” His mouth brushes my ear. “…infatuation.”

Welcome to the first day of the Mondays with Mephistopheles: 9am - Rhys blog tour. It will run until August 9th and will feature excerpts and new author interviews each day. But first, here is the obligatory blurb about the novel to settle you into this strange world:
Abraham Rogers has an unusual psychotherapy practice: monsters. This first installment is a session with Rhys, the IT vampire who can’t quite connect with the modern world the way he would like.
A few questions for the author:
Do you have any tips for readers or advice for other writers trying to get published?
Stay the course. A lot of first-time authors have bungled their perceptions and expectations of what it means to be a published author. Very few of us ever reach the level of super-stardom. Realize that marketing your book becomes crucial, whether you are traditionally published or self-published. Write even you don't want to to and stop complaining about the unfairness of this or that. Write a book you are proud of and then take your lumps. This process takes time.
Is there anything else you’d like to say?
I love writing books, and I love helping people put together books. I started a literary and publishing consulting company with the sole purpose of helping first-time writers out. Do you need an experienced editor to look over your short story or novel? Do you need help building a platform or self-publishing your book? Are you right on the cusp of realizing your dream, but you need someone to help you those few extra steps? Are you a business in the need of an established copy-editor and/or copywriter? All that matters to me is the integrity of your artistic vision and helping you create the highest quality work possible. Visit my website for details: www.amalgamconsulting.com
If we're sitting here a year from now celebrating what a great year it's been for you in this role, what did we achieve together?
We helped a lot of people realize their dreams of publishing. I was able to meet my personal publishing goals and I feel vindicated that I was able to support my goal of making writing and publishing full-time a sustainable reality. And I was able to move to the coast and enjoy temperate weather for the rest of my life. Dream fulfilled.
Here be an excerpt for your enjoyment:
Abraham Rogers had become a psychologist for a variety of reasons, chief among them that he was uncomfortable with the rigidity of psychiatry as a profession and its propensity to solve psychological issues with pharmaceuticals. He had his clients call him Abe, as he felt the Doctor moniker was too heavy handed for his type of treatment.
He fancied himself a proponent in a long line of humanistic psychologists who offered unconditional support for anyone who needed to work through personal or professional issues.
As he sat in his dark office, shades drawn and lamp set to its lowest setting, he ruminated about the use of the word human.
His practice had suffered as of late.
The market had become saturated with recent graduates and despite a growing despair on the horizon, his billable hours began to decrease.
He had to consider a new kind of client.
The buzzing sound from the intercom on his desk woke him from his thoughtful pose. Standing, he depressed the button.
His secretary’s voice did not match her appearance. The brusque tone suggested a woman solidly built with a perpetual scowl. Eve was the very picture of carefree youth: bright blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair.
“Dr. Rogers, your 11 o’clock appointment is here. Should I send him in?”
Abe liked to meet his clients in the waiting room.
“I’ll be right out.”
Taking the three long steps from his comfortable seat to the thick oak door, Abe smiled––though managed little more than a self-conscious smirk.
Rhys was a mere specter of a man. His porcelain skin was accented by a burgundy shirt and dark pants. A pair of polarized sunglasses hid his eyes as he turned his head to the approaching Dr. Rogers.
“Good morning, Rhys. Shall we?”
Rhys stood with a smooth and effortless movement. His lean frame was hidden beneath layers of superfluous clothing despite the humidity outside of the office.
Abe had become accustomed to the strange turn his life had taken. Every academic had to specialize at some point in their career. Abraham Rogers’ practice had become a respite for the strange.

Interview
1. You have traveled to quite a few places, what has been your favorite so far and what did you learn while you were there?
That’s a tough one! I learned that people in Russia are just like people in Australia, who are just like people in Idaho—the majority are kind and open. Also, the walls of subways in Russia are beautiful with stunning paintings, FYI. And, if you’re going backpacking around Australia, it’s wise to take your karate instructor with you, especially if he’s a cutie.
2. What are your thoughts on people using ghostwriters?
I think ghosts should be able to write just like anybody else. Just kidding.
Well…I’ve never thought about this question. I guess I don’t really understand why somebody would use a ghostwriter or why someone would want to be one. (Note that I’m not insulting anyone here, I just don’t get it.) If you write a book, why not put your name on it? And if you didn’t write a book, why put your name on it?
3. Is Twitter still confusing to you or have you figure it out?
LOL! To be honest, I feel like a bumbling dork on Twitter. Maybe I need more words to make sense than a tweet allows, because I do better on Facebook. But I’m doing my best.
4. Does everyone in your family read your books? If they do, does it ever make you blush when your aunt for example asks you how you came up with a certain sex scene?
Most of my family reads my books, and I don’t blush much about the sex scenes. However, my hubby gets asked once in a while if he’s the inspiration, or if he acts out the sex scenes, and he may blush a bit. Of course, on him, a blush looks tough.
5. Who were your favorite authors growing up?
Growing up, I was a Carolyn Keene (Nancy Drew Books) and Julie Tatham (Trixie Belden books) fan. But, when I turned sixteen, I snuck into my mom’s bag of books and found one of Nora Robert’s MacGregor romances, and I was hooked for life. From that point on, it was romance for me all the way.
6. What are your favorite comfort foods?
I guess I should only list a couple here, right? For comfort, I like Macaroni and cheese, pizza, and ice-cream. Definite comfort foods, I’m pretty sure!
Thanks again for having me over today!

Maggie is a wolf shifter who was captured and experimented on by the Kurjans. Now that a cure has finally been found for shifters (although not for vampire mates or witches), she can concentrate on creating a new life for herself and finally accepting that her memories are gone forever. A man she happened to anger by kidnapping a few years back. Hey, it was for a good cause. Terrent Vilks knows more than he’s let on for the past several years. After digging for answers, he knows exactly why the demons want Maggie dead. And he remembers his past with Maggie…very well. She is finally where he wants her. Now all he has to do is discover what exactly the Kurjans did to her, beat the demons into so much submission they leave her alone, and get her to fall in love with him. Again. Good thing he’s used to wrangling monsters.

Jase Kayrs was the fun brother. The warm, charming, easy-going brother of the vampire leaders. Until he was taken and tortured by demons with their evil mind tricks for nearly five years. Upon his return, he’s dark, violent, and not the man they all thought they knew. Not the man he once was. He’s haunted that the only reason the demons would have let him live was to use him as a weapon against his family—but he can’t figure out when or how he’ll explode. Plus, once again the demons are after Jase with a vengeance…or rather, a female demon he rejected is out to destroy him. Then the king asks Jase for a favor…a big one. To mate with one of their allies in order to save her. She’s everything that’s good and light in the world…while he’s at home with darkness. Yet he agrees…knowing mating may be the only chance to save them both.
