Finally Found

Where one story ends, often another begins. For some reason, Adam Davenport can’t see past the ending. The hit and run has forced him to slow down and stop running from the pain of losing his parents. He has tried to hide behind meaningless, superficial relationships and even more shallow friendships, but the time has come to face his loneliness. Now he is finally ready to start being a family with his brother Sam. However, Sam and Haley, who was once Sam’s personal assistant, are too busy basking in their newfound love. Though breaking the rules for the first time ever has changed Sam’s life for the better, Adam has always broken the rules, strayed from responsibility, and done as little as he could get away with. One of the main reasons that he refused to believe that Cammie was more than friend material was because she was impervious to his charms. She was so driven and determined to make her new catering company a success that she couldn’t see past her own dreams. Suddenly, Adam found himself behaving in ways he never imagined. He was working to impress a woman, but more than that, he was working to help make her dreams come true. He soon realizes that there are times in life when giving is more important than taking and when helping someone else is more important than what that person can do to reciprocate. He also learns there are times that the biggest risk is to stop hiding from emotions and to start allowing love to finally be found. 3 of 5 stars false1/2

Q&A With Nicole

When you write does inspiration hit you all at once or does it come in spurts?
Inspiration, in my case, tends to come in spurts. All of a sudden, I’ll start playing with some ideas, so I write them down, and take enough notes that they still make sense to me when I finally arrive at that scene. I stick them at the end of the word doc and add them in as I get there. It may be confusing, but it makes sense to me. Plus, I get this feeling of accomplishment when everything gets all caught up.
What are the eleven Margaritavilles you have left to visit?
I just took a look at the website. Jimmy has been busy. When I first started this quest, Margaritavilles were in the Caribbean and a few oceanfront and tropical touristy locations. Now, it looks like they are in malls and everywhere. So, I’m going to share the locations I still want to visit, the original places that really scream Margaritaville, like the three in Jamaica: Ocho Rios, Negril, and Montego Bay; the few in Florida: Panama City, Orlando, Key West, Cancun and Grand Cayman. By the time you read this, I hope to have been to Grand Turk.
Do you need to read Sam’s story before you read Finally Found You or are they independent books?
It’s best to read Sam’s story in Hiding Out before reading Finally Found. That’s why I decided to create the package book. Those who haven’t read either can buy both together at a discount. There are only the two books so there’s no cliffhanger.
What authors have influenced your work?
I am ashamed to admit that prior to publishing, I had never really read any Indie authors. As a traditionally educated college grad, I had been trained that the Indie books were lesser works than those traditionally published. While that is true in some cases, I have discovered that such a blanket theory doesn’t apply to the community as a whole. So, my influences were more romance authors like Janet Evanovich, Christine Feehan, Christina Dodd, and Jennifer Crusie. Now, however, I am more influenced by JB McGee, Katie Ashley, and Nicole Edwards.
Favorite book you have read this year so far?
Hmmm. There are no true favorites yet this year. I haven’t had the opportunity to read for pleasure. It’s all been for review or editing for others. The last book I read and couldn’t put down, however, was Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl. Brilliant. Seriously twisted. It had stayed with me.

Review

****This book was part of a blog tour I received an uncorrected ARC and based my review on storyline alone.****

Adam has spent most of his life as a playboy, after being in a coma and then living with his brother Sam while recovering, he realizes that there is more to life than partying and sleeping around. When Sam and Haley hire a nurse for Adam and take him back to his place on his birthday, Adam decides to take off. He asks Cammie to drive him and the two of them go to his families Hampton home. He wants Cammie to stay so he offers to help her get her catering business off the ground and the two of them spend the time between fighting their attraction, moments between the sheets, denying their emotions and trying to get Cammies business started. Can a playboy really be reformed and can Cammie really trust that he has when she has personally been a witness to the women he has picked up and left? This was such a cute story, Cammie was a strong woman, I loved how she didn't shy away from anything, when she wanted something she went for it. Adam went from being a good time playboy to a man trying to prove himself, it was interesting and at times amusing to watch. The storyline itself was not very original, kinda Cinderella/pretty woman, but the author did such a great job of writing it that she owned it, she added little things here and there that made stand out. Finally Found is a good lazy day read to pick up and just relax with.

Death Day Anniversary by Lee Brazil

His squirming movements created unbearable friction, and I traced a hand down the tight denim to capture a taut buttock and hold him still against me while I thoroughly explored the wet cavern he’d granted me access to.
I drew away and stared down at him. “I wanted to do that the first moment I saw you at my resting place.”
Awakening at moonrise to find such a tempting morsel in my tomb had been a delicious surprise. His flight across the graveyard had been invigorating.
“Yeah.” His breathy agreement made me smile again

Ravan McAllan: Raven lives in Scotland, along with her husband and their two cats—their children having flown the nest—surrounded by beautiful scenery, which inspires a lot of the settings in her books.
She is used to sharing her life with the occasional deer, red squirrel, and lost tourist, to say nothing of the scourge of Scotland—the midge.
A lover of reading, she appreciates the history inside a book, and the chance to peek into the lives of those from years ago. Raven admits that she enjoys the research for her books almost as much as the writing; so much so, that sometimes she realizes she's strayed way past the information she needs to know, and not a paragraph has been added to her WIP.

Doris O’Connor: Glutton for punishment would be a good description for Doris... at least that's what she hears on an almost daily basis when people find out that she has a brood of nine children, ranging from adult to toddler and lives happily in a far too small house, cluttered with children, pets, dust bunnies, and one very understanding and supportive husband. Domestic goddess she is not.

There is always something better to do after all, like working on the latest manuscript and trying not to scare the locals even more than usual by talking out loud to the voices in her head. Her characters tend to be pretty insistent to get their stories told, and you will find Doris burning the midnight oil on a regular basis. Only time to get any peace and quiet and besides, sleep is for wimps.

She likes to spin sensual, sassy, and sexy tales involving alpha heroes to die for, and heroines who give as good as they get. From contemporary to paranormal, BDSM to F/F, and Ménage, haunting love stories are guaranteed.

After a brutal attack, Sari’s taken to the Sacred City, exposing her to the secret lives of the Rayians who rule in the long lost queen’s absence. It’s in this darkly sexual world where she first meets the legendary consorts. Too handsome and talented for their own good, Calder and Taryen have learned to trust only each other in order to survive. Their brutal lives make the two consorts hesitant to care for Sari when she’s unexpectedly dumped in their laps, but they soon discover she’s different from the cruel women they’re used to serving. Drawn to Sari on a soul deep level, Calder and Taryen can’t seem to stop themselves from going back for one more taste of the beautiful outsider...even when it puts the fate of the entire world in jeopardy.

Calder walked back into the room, three female attendants following him. “Come here.”
Sari gasped when he pulled her gently away from Taryen and swept her into his arms as if she weighed nothing to him.
“What’re you doing?” she choked out, the pain still making her vision foggy. “I’m naked.”
Calder rolled his eyes, careless of her being uncomfortable as he walked out of the room he shared with Taryen and down a long, richly decorated hallway. Sari should be more concerned with her nudity in such a public domain, but the pain was making her forget everything. As was Calder’s scent. Like Taryen, he smelled divine.
“You smell good,” she mumbled, not knowing what it was about these two males that left her feeling safe to the point that she trusted them even while naked. She turned her face toward his chest, inhaling deeply. “Different from your lifemate. His scent is more exotic. Yours is a clean, crisp scent—both are nice.”
“We wear different scents,” Calder explained, taking long, fast strides toward his destination, not even sounding winded from her weight. “The attendants try to use oils they feel suit us.”
“They do a good job,” Sari whispered as she focused on the way he smelled, his strong arms holding her, his smooth, tanned skin that felt so good against hers. Calder was an effective distraction from the pain. “I think I’m attracted to you.”
“Very likely,” Calder agreed matter-of-factly. “Most Rayian females are.”
“You sound unhappy about that.” Sari found him unique as well as handsome. “Females are rare. Most males would consider themselves lucky to have such attention.”
“If you say so.” Calder turned around, looking to the attendants and Taryen behind them. “She’ll need something to dull the pain.”
“We brought it, my lord.”
Sari frowned. “I thought the waters—”
“Trust me on this.” Calder winced. “You want something to dull the pain.”
Sari opened her mouth to argue but was hushed by Calder as the attendants opened the doors. He carried her into a room that looked like a large, communal bath. Beautiful pillars and decorative lounge chairs surrounded a massive pool with sloping sides that would be nice to rest against in the water.
One of the attendants leaned over Sari as she rested comfortably in Calder’s arms. “For you, my lady.”
Sari blinked up at the young woman, fighting to keep her face in focus. The scent in the bathing area was aromatic and full of burning leaves like Taryen and Calder’s room. It was a strangely lulling scent, and her eyes felt heavy. Despite the fog to her thinking, Sari refused to open her mouth to the small cup of unknown liquid the pretty attendant was offering.
“It’ll help your pain. You’re gravely injured,” the attendant coaxed when Sari shook her head, refusing the offering.
“I don’t drink strange substances. It could cloud the mind.”
“It does cloud the mind,” Taryen assured her as he brushed her hair tenderly off her forehead. “The waters’ healing is painful when the injuries are grave. Be thankful you can take it.”
Sari stared at Taryen with his dark, soulful eyes that shone with empathy. “Will you protect me while my mind is clouded?” she asked, feeling seduced by his beauty and kind nature. “Will you keep the predators at bay until I can do it myself?”
“There are no predators here, my lady.” Taryen’s voice was entrancing. “But if there were, Calder and I would protect you. We’re well trained to protect the females we serve.”
Sari surprised herself by believing him. She leaned up in Calder’s arms, stifling a scream and choking down the horrid-tasting liquid the attendant held to her lips. “It’s awful.”
“Is it?” Taryen asked curiously, his large hand stroking her hair in a way that was calming.
She squinted at Taryen, who became fuzzy around the edges almost instantly. “You’ve never tasted it?”
“Neither of us have.” Calder pushed past Taryen and walked with Sari toward the pool. “As Taryen said, be thankful you can take it. This is going to be painful. I apologize in advance.”
“Not your fault.” Sari’s tongue felt thick. The drugs were obviously doing their job as her eyes grew heavy. “As long as it doesn’t kill me, I can endure.”
“All right.” Calder waded into the waters with her.
Her feet touched the water first, and she jerked from the searing burn. Her first instinct was to tell him to stop, but she fought the urge to flee, wanting her strength back, even if the healing was agonizing.
“Fast,” she choked, her body stiff not just from the pain but in anticipation of more. “Do it fast. End it now.”
A scream burst out of her when Calder obeyed, dropping down in the water, plunging her into the steaming pool. Her entire body convulsed from the level of pain that seared through her.
“He has to obey you. Your will is his.” Taryen jumped into the waters with them, helping Calder hold on to her as she fought against the torment that was blinding in its intensity. “Breathe, my lady. Long, slow breaths. Listen to my voice and the pain will fade.”
“It’s not fading.” Her attempt at long, slow breaths sounded more like hyperventilating. “I’m dying.”
“No, no, you’re not.” Taryen cupped her face with both hands. He turned her head toward him as she fought to break free of Calder’s strong grip. “You said you trusted me. Hear me when I say you aren’t dying. Just look at me and see the truth of my words.”
Sari panted through the pain, her eyes wide and stunned as it continued to rip through her. She stared at Taryen as instructed, finding that on some level it did help. His eyes were strangely dark, with the irises hard to find even in the brightly lit room. She became entranced, feeling suddenly as if he were some sort of mirage. She stared for several minutes, following his instructions to take concentrated breaths in a long, slow manner.
It worked. The pain started to fade faster than anticipated, though she knew instinctively it was Taryen’s beauty more than his instructions on how to breathe that was distracting her. He was so alluring. Taryen almost radiated with something stronger than good looks. In the distant part of her mind not dazed by drugs and pain, she recognized an oddly healing vitality that seemed to pulse off him. His hands on her cheeks felt warm, as if exuding some sort of restorative life energy.
“The queen is very lucky,” Sari whispered in a heavy voice she didn’t recognize as her own while she studied Taryen. “I’m attracted to you.”
“Thank you.” Taryen’s voice was still soft and hypnotic. “Appealing to you pleases me.”
“It should,” she told him, lifting her eyebrows to emphasize her point. “I’ve never been attracted to a male before. I don’t crave sex—ever.”
“All Rayian females crave sex.” Calder sounded harsh and cynical. “Give yourself time and you’ll catch on.”
“I never crave it. I never even think of it except to avoid it,” Sari explained, feeling too hazy and dazed to argue more than that. “I think it’s you. There’s something strange about both of you.”
“Our life force is bound to the queen,” Taryen explained, his voice making Sari’s eyelids heavier with its lulling pitch. “We naturally release a pheromone designed to entice her. It’s very strong. It appeals to all Rayian females.”
“I don’t understand,” Sari mumbled.
“You don’t have to.” Calder held her tighter, making her feel secure and
protected. “It is us. We apologize if it upsets you. If we could turn it off, we would.”
“It doesn’t upset me.” Sari fell lax in Calder’s arms, and gave up the battle to keep
her eyes open. “It makes me feel sort of nice.”
The water’s healing was no longer painful. It was warm and calming, much like Calder’s arms around her as he waded over to the shallower side of the pool. Then he lay back against one of the sloping sides with her. Taryen’s fingers were still in her hair, stroking it softly away from her face. She hardly noticed the attendants bathing her while she lay in a dazed realm of half sleep, with strong, hard arms shielding her and the smell of burning herbs mixing with the enticing combination of Calder and Taryen.
Feeling comfortable and safe for the first time in her memory, Sari fell into an exhausted, drug-induced sleep nothing could disrupt. Unusual that these two strangers were able to give her that gift when Sari rarely trusted, but Taryen and Calder didn’t feel like strangers. The sleep brought a bizarre clarity that told her on some level her soul knew these males even if they should be completely alien to her.

Torn

A group of Southern Californian teens learn pivotal lessons about sexuality, friendship, love and life. It was different this time; we weren't acting on a dare. I knew our motive; we were practicing the act, hoping to impress the right boy when it came time. But then something happened in the mix of the moment, in the mix of the alcohol. It wasn't planned, but somehow our kissing experiment turned into something else. Things went further . . . and once they had, once I returned to earth from the euphoria . . . I wrestled with my feelings at that frank realization, questioning whether our said objective was entirely true. When fourteen-year old Krista McKinley transfers from Catholic school in Ohio to California's public Crestmount High, she discovers she has a lot to learn. Luckily, she is befriended by Carrie and Brandon and things start to look up. But when a simple dare tests Krista's values, it sends her entire world spiraling into a confusing series of events that leaves her questioning her identity as well as the people around her.

Sunday night. I sat perched on the chair behind my desk with only the faint glow from my reading light. By 10:00 p.m. the night air was crisp as it floated through my bedroom window. I had been by myself for hours now.
I closed my math book and abandoned my homework. I couldn’t concentrate; wandering thoughts continued to distract me. I bit my lip and thought about my options. I wanted to talk. I needed to talk, and Brandon was the only person in whom I could confide. It was late, but I picked up the phone and dialed, praying he would answer.
After the third ring, Brandon said, “Hello?”
It’s Krista.”
Hey, gorgeous.” He sounded remarkably awake.
I can’t sleep.”
Daydreaming about Daemon?”
Try bored. Josh is on a date and basically told us not to expect him home. Marc had an emergency call from the hospital. Just thought I’d see if you wanted to come over—hang out.”
After a moment he said, “Sure.”
You’re the best, Brandon.”
That’s what they all say.”
I couldn’t help smiling. “See you when you get here.”
I hung up the phone, then sat back on my bed and began thinking. I was scared to be alone in the house at night, but I had other things on my mind, too. Tonight would be the perfect opportunity to talk to Brandon. I had a daring question for him—that is, if I got up the courage to ask him. I’d been tossing around an unlikely idea in my head ever since he had surprised me with his boyishly sweet kiss. Just as Carrie and I practiced I began to wonder how things might be if I were doing the same thing with a boy.
Was it horrible of me to consider it? Was it something I had no business asking? Would he hate me or be offended if I did? I was afraid. I couldn’t be sure how he would react. Well, there was only one way to find out.
Twenty minutes later, Brandon rang my doorbell.
Coming,” I yelled, sliding down the tile of the foyer in my stocking feet to come to a skidding halt at the door. I flung it wide open.
Hey, you,” he said through a brilliant smile. He wore well-fitted blue jeans and a silky, short-sleeved, button down shirt in a deep shade of blue. He looked beautiful in blue. He came inside and closed the door behind him. We hugged in greeting, and I inhaled a sweet hint of his cologne.
Thanks for coming.”
No problem.”
You can pick the movie,” I said as we walked into the living room. “Over by the cabinet.” Brandon headed toward the entertainment center while I went into the kitchen.
I returned with two cans of Coke, then flopped down Indian-style on the couch. “Did you find one?” I said.
Smiling, he handed me Can’t Buy Me Love.
Again? We’ve only seen it a hundred times.”
But Patrick Dempsey’s irresistible in this role.” He gave me one of his ridiculous grins.
Fine. But I’ve never understood your taste in men.”
Brandon put the movie in, then sat down beside me. I tossed him a bag of Skittles. The usual hard-fast rules about not talking didn’t apply to this movie, since we knew it by heart. Sometimes it seemed as if we played it solely for background atmosphere. I made myself comfortable as the opening credits began to roll.
How’s Carrie?” he asked.
Carrie hadn’t been at school for the past two days. In fact, her school attendance over the past month had been erratic. I really had no answer. When I had called Carrie’s house, her mother stated that she wasn’t accepting phone calls. So far, she hadn’t let me in on what was going on.
She still hasn’t talked to me about it.”
I turned my attention back to the television and watched half-heartedly.
The movie had been on for a while as I considered my dilemma. I wrestled with the idea of approaching the subject; it had the potential to turn things weird, real quick. Brandon laughed at a scene from the movie.
I made a tentative beginning. “Brandon.”
He turned to look at me. “What’s up?”
I kind of . . . need to talk to you.”
So talk.”
How many girls have you slept with?” Not very subtle. “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to,” I added quickly.
He studied me. “That question’s left field even for you,” he said.
I shrugged.
So what’s up?” Grabbing the remote control, he lowered the volume.
Just curious, I guess. You’ve never really talked about it.”
There isn’t much to tell.”
But you have. . .”
Yes. Twice.”
I reached for my soda trying to act casual. “Did you like it?”
The first time was kinda weird,” he said as if he were summoning some far off memory. “Very vague. I don’t know . . . I was really drunk. Barely have any recollection of it at all.”
So if you liked guys, why did you bother with girls?”
I guess because I was kind of lost. I knew I felt differently, but at the same time, I was afraid someone would find out, so I tried to ignore it. Basically went along with what everyone else was doing. All anyone ever talked about was how great sex was. There was always talk about what girls did what.” He shrugged. “My curiosity got the better of me. I figured I was missing out on something.”
And . . . ”
His lips crooked into a smile and then he laughed. “It was . . . interesting.”
When was that?”
Two years ago.”
Were you nervous?”
Considering I had no idea what I was doing, yeah, I’d say so.” After a moment he added, “Well, at least I tried it.”
But I saw a talk show that made it sound like gay men are totally turned off by women.”
You watch too many of those damn talk shows. I can’t speak for everybody, but not all gays feel that way.” Brandon studied my eyes. “Am I going to have to drag out what’s bugging you?”
My stomach fell and my heart rate quickened. A lump formed in my throat.
Does this have to do with Carrie? You know. . . I’ll help in any way I can.”
He might live to regret those words. “Thanks,” I managed to say. This was it. If I was ever going to have the nerve to ask him, it had to be now.
Are you feeling well?” he said suddenly.
My voice, barely audible, struggled to get the words out; I had officially reached panic mode. “I need to ask you a favor.” Looking down at the couch, I picked at the fabric. “A big one.”
All right. What is it?”
I couldn’t look at him, but I mustered up all the courage I had and took a deep breath. “Would you . . . ” I stopped, cleared my mind and tried again. My voice was barely audible. “Will you be my first?”
Heat rushed to my cheeks so fast that I thought I would surely pass out during the awkward silence that followed. I felt like an ass. I flicked a nervous glance at him. His face was utterly blank.
I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have mentioned it.” Why had I opened my mouth?
Kris, you can have any guy you want. Why me?”
I trust you. I don’t know . . . all these things have been going on with Carrie . . . it’s so confusing,” I said. “Anyway, I—I want it to be you.” There. I said it. “Will you do it?”
There was no way to know what he was thinking because he didn’t answer me for a while. His voice had lost all humor. “You kinda caught me off guard.” He looked at me again. “How long have you been thinking about this? Have you actually thought this through?”
I ignored his first question. “I have. I’m completely sure.” I wasn’t, but I had to do something. “If I’ve offended you . . .”
It’s not that.”
He sat perched on the edge of the couch, tipped forward with his elbows resting on his knees. He stared at his hands, brows pursed in concern. “You’re serious.”
Dead serious.”
I can get the keys to the beach house on Monday. We’ll—”
No.” I swallowed hard. “It has to be now. You know Carrie and I are leaving for dance camp next week and I want to know…well I don’t now what I want to know but I want it to happen before then. And tonight, no one will be home tonight.”
He fell back into the couch, almost pale. “Tonight?”
I need to know before I see Carrie again.”
Brandon opened his mouth but silence filled the air. He closed it when he couldn’t find a thing to say.
Kris . . . ”
I understand. It was ridiculous of me to think . . . ” I looked down, shifting my attention to my fingers. I finally made the admission. “At the party, I tried with Eric, but—”
What? You really must’ve been on drugs! That’s craziness, Kris. I can’t believe you even considered it.”
His vehemence surprised me, and I sat there, silent.
You’re afraid,” I said finally.
Terrified.” He rubbed his hands together. “For more than one reason. If anything went wrong, I’d hate myself for it. And won’t you regret it not happening with someone you really like, maybe even someone you love?”
I thought you didn’t believe in love.”
We’re talking about you.”
I just want to experience what most girls do. Doesn’t that make sense?”
Make sense? You really don’t believe this a typical request, do you?”
I’m not expecting it to be perfect. I know the first time is generally a disappointment. I read Seventeen magazine.”
His expression was wary. Maybe he didn’t want me to decide my sexual preference based on an experience with him.
He rubbed his hands over his face. “We’ll see what happens,” he said.

At age 22, author Amber Lehman began researching and writing what would become the novel TORN. Her writing occurred during a chaotic period of her life and she was often forced to set aside writing time to tend to family and personal matters. It was 5 years before TORN was completed to her satisfaction. It went through too many editing stages to count, and the end result was quite different than what was originally an 1100 page novel. After years of setting it aside, Amber finally revisited it and it was trimmed down to the 404 pages you now see. Then she waited another 9 years before she got the courage to publish it. Although TORN is closer to what Amber calls “faction” than fiction, TORN draws upon experiences from her life as she observed and participated in the social dramas surrounding her friends lives and past relationships. A native of southern California, Amber loves to write and illustrate every chance she gets. She spends most of her days conversing with her cat, Mouse. She enjoys German culture and language, and while it’s no secret that she holds a special affinity for the LGBTQ community, she does also look forward to writing books in many different genres.

Review

***This book was chosen by you for my tbr list challenge, thank you!***
I always love starting a new paranormal romance series. Turning that first page, I am always excited that I am going to find a new favourite, one that I can continue on with.
Sylvia Day has given me just that, one that is on par with some of my favourites.
A Touch of Crimson is the first book in the Renegade Angels series. We have Angels, Vampires and Lykens. The Vampires being fallen angels and the Lykens being a group in servitude to the Angels to help keep the vampires in check. That is all present and important information but the main story is of Adrian and his Shadoe, his soul mate, returned to him once more in the body of Lindsay. The battle between following your heart or following the rules is prevalent in this book as the consequences are there, in the form of the vampires, as a constant reminder to what may happen if you don't follow the rules.
The cast of characters in this book were brilliant. I loved Adrian, the leader of the Sentinel's, and I felt for him and struggled with him for all that he had lost in the past and what he stood to lose in the future.
Lindsay's character was very enjoyable, she was likeable, strong and just the perfect match for a bossy Angel. I especially loved the friendship she struck up with Elijah, the Lycan Alpha.
This book really had so many stories going in it, with the Vampires, Lycans and Angels...it had me wondering sometimes, really who are the bad guys here?
All these back stories were necessary however, to build the world and at no point was I uninterested or bored. I have heard from a few that this book had a slow start, but I did not feel that way at all. I was engaged all the way through and now I am eagerly awaiting reading the next in the series.
Great start to what will be another brilliant paranormal romance world.

*This is a New Adult/Mature YA. Minor swearing and drug usage

Review

****I was given a copy of this book for my honest review****
There is something about a love triangle, that if done well just makes a book. I am a sucker for them.
Natalee is a teenager who feels ignored by her parents and pretty much feels invisible. She is bored in her small town literally can't wait to get out of there and go to college.
Things are made interesting with the entrance of two famous rock stars, Alec and Demetri.
When the boys start attending school and both seem to be interested in her, Natalee finds herself in the middle of a love triangle. Secret's, lies and a tragic past stand in the way of everyone finding happiness.
Although this book was YA and brought with it all the angst and drama that Young adult books usually do, I was not put off. Because this book actually felt like it had something else, a bit more feeling. Alec and Demetri were all that I was expecting from teenage rock stars, but there back story and the secret...god, it was torture. I felt bad for all involved.
I loved that this book had a little mini comparison to the most famous recent love triangle of the last few years, Twilight. It gave me a little chuckle, especially because I was comparing the two in my head at the time. Tear was a thoroughly enjoyable young adult, romance. Very well written and paced, I will be checking out more from this author.

Blood In The Valley

The daughter of a Las Vegas hustler, Raven Sabatier grew up trusting nothing and no one—she doesn’t even trust herself to stay in one place for longer than a minute. When her quest to find out the secrets of her past leads her to the mountains of North Carolina, she’s set on a collision course with the one man she thought she’d never see again. In Appalachia consulting on an archeological dig, Anthropologist Dr. Drew Deveraux comes face to face with the indomitable beauty who broke into his apartment a year ago, tilting his carefully cultivated world on its axis. Engaged in a fight with their demons, both imagined and real, the last thing either of them expected to find was love. Together, they must unravel the mystery of Raven’s past and her connection with an ancient race of witches, in order to save their future—and all of the souls hanging in the balance.

Excerpt

Raven’s skin shivered like a racehorse at the gate, ready to bolt. The air around them changed when the woman had shown herself. There was a charge, and it was threatening to singe her.
Her fingers clawed into the rock behind her, and she wet her lips nervously, having to clear her throat before she spoke. “Do I know you?”
The woman clucked her tongue disapprovingly. “I should hope so, Poppet,” she said in a heavy British accent. “I’m your mother.”
Raven’s pulse ratcheted up a notch even as her blood ran cold. She’d been anticipating this confrontation for nearly a year, but with the new information they had from Ray about Azibel, she was thrown off guard.
Doing her best to mask her struggle, she curled her mouth into a sneer and forced herself to step away from the safety of the rock. “So you say.”
“Don’t test me, child. You’ve no idea what you’re dealing with.”
“Try me. Azibel.”
The small woman raised a brow and narrowed her eyes at Raven. “I gather you’ve spoken to Raymonde. That is unfortunate. I’ll have to have a little chat with my associates when I return.” She said “chat” the way normal folks would say “pulling teeth”.
“Good luck. They’re dead.”
Azibel shrugged a delicate shoulder and pouted. “Pity, that. Good help is so hard to find these days. Ah, well,” she waved a dismissive hand in the air, “c’est la vie, as they say.”
Raven was rapidly losing patience—a virtue she had blessed little of to begin with—so she decided to cut to the chase. “What do you want from me?”
Azibel stepped forward, then reached out and trailed a blood-red fingertip down a strand of Raven’s hair. “So pretty.”
Raven’s skin crawled with the need to back away, but she stood her ground, raised her face to meet her mother’s gaze.
Big mistake. Big. Huge. A thin but surprisingly strong hand snapped out and grabbed her by the wrist. Raven was helpless but to look on in horror as Azibel’s face began to change. Eyes that were once black turned completely clear, with shadows swirling hypnotically inside them, as if they were trying to reach out to her.
An image of a spider emerged on her forehead, and her canines lengthened into lethal-looking fangs. Explains the overbite, Raven thought. And it was the last thought of her own before Azibel firmly rooted herself into Raven’s mind.
“What I want…,” she purred, “is to take my rightful place in this world, with my daughter beside me. Imagine, Raven, joining together with me to lower, no, to destroy the barrier that keeps my people confined to the hell in which they are imprisoned.”
Raven tried to shake her head, to scream, but she couldn’t seem to get her brain to send the signals to her body. She felt her mouth go slack, and her breathing ease as she stared into those mesmerizing eyes.
“You can’t tell me you haven’t always felt…different. Like something was missing. Like you weren’t meant for this menial existence. Can you?” Obviously fully aware of Raven’s inability to answer, she plowed on. “Of course, you can’t. You would be a goddess among my people. They would revere and fear you—serve your every desire. Imagine it.”
And, with a nausea roiling in her belly, Raven did. She allowed herself a moment to feel what it would be like to have a mother, to really know who she was and where she came from, and be exalted for it.
Smiling a knowing smile as if she knew Raven’s thoughts, Azibel cupped her cheek with her free hand. Her skin was icy cold and shocked Raven a bit out of her stupor. “Say the word, pet. Everything I have is yours if you join with me. In fact, you don’t even have to speak. Just nod, my precious.”
While she fought the battle to stay conscious and regain control of her own mind, Raven had the absurd image of Tolkien’s Gollum salivating over a piece of jewelry like it could answer all the questions in the universe.
The utter ridiculousness of it, of Azibel for what she was asking, and of Raven for even allowing herself to consider it, snapped her right out of it. Without hesitating further, she summoned her power over space to swirl the air around Azibel, creating an invisible noose around her neck.
Azibel’s eyes widened in disbelief as she released Raven to claw at her own neck, and she scored bloody gashes into her delicate skin. She coughed and gasped for breath, then stumbled back. Somehow, she summoned enough power to send out a blast of energy to dislodge Raven’s hold.
“You bitch! I would have given you everything, but now? Now you’ll bleed like the rest of those insipid humans when I burn this world down around your ears!”
Before Raven even had time to process those threats, she felt herself being lifted bodily off the ground and hoisted into the pool behind her, though Azibel never moved an inch.
The first thing she registered was the mind-numbing cold of the water. In an Appalachian mountain pool in the fall, one could freeze to death in minutes. God, the cold. Like nothing she’d ever felt, it seeped into her skin and made her bones ache.
Survival instinct kicked in and she tried to struggle to the surface, but she was pushed back down and held by invisible hands. Then she was held by very real hands. More hands than she could count.
The hands came up from the dark depths of the pool. They groped and pulled, and grappled with her as if trying to climb their way to freedom. Opening her eyes, she could see them. Bodies in the water. With their gaping mouths and vacant, black eyes, they loomed in the murky pool. They reached for her, whether to pull her down or pull themselves up, she didn’t know.
Finally, her body registered the lack of air, the need to breathe. And everything whittled down to that one simple, life-giving function. Allowing her body to go still, she stopped her struggles and tried to conserve what little oxygen she had left.
As she calmed, an insidious voice floated through her mind. “You see what happens to those who defy me, Raven? I don’t just kill them, I torture them for eternity. I’ll destroy you for spurning me,” the voice said with an eerie calm, “you, and everything—everyone—you love.”
Spots began floating in her vision, and Raven knew the end was close. She sent out a desperate message and hoped to the gods that Isla or Brynna would somehow sense her distress.
The need to breathe became the center of her universe. Once again, she tried to claw her way to the surface, but it was useless. Invisible bands of steel encircled her, weighing her down, squeezing the life out of her. Her body began to convulse, and she involuntarily let go the breath she’d been holding.
Her vision dimmed, and her head pounded, her fight or flight response screaming in her ear. With the very last reserve of her strength, she pushed out against the water, against the very oxygen in its makeup.
Water exploded around her, and, just as suddenly, all the hands that held her down released. At the same time, two pairs of blessedly real hands latched onto her arms and pulled upward. She shot out of the water, flailing and gasping, and landed on two warm bodies.
Small but strong arms cradled her as she coughed and retched, until all the dreaded water had leeched out of her lungs. More hands smacked her back to help her expel what was left. She rolled onto her back on the cool stone, stared up at the sky and breathed in great heaves of air. Damn, she loved air. It was way underrated.
A shadow blocked out the sun as Isla leaned over her. “Raven? Sweeting, can you hear me?”
Raven tried to speak, but all that came out was a strangled croak, so she gave up and simply nodded.
Another shadow joined the first, except this one had a flaming red halo backlit by the sun. “What th’ bloody divil was that?” she squeaked, her brogue so thickened, she was almost unintelligible.
“Did you see her?” Raven managed to rasp the question out before dissolving in another fit of coughing.
“See who?”
“Azibel,” she ground out before promptly passing out.

An Easy Dare

Cat loved Gabe from the time she was five years old. She thought it would be easy: fall in love with your childhood sweetheart, get married and live happily ever after. But as the years go on, the fairy tale soon falls apart. It seems the past three years have treated Gabe well. He’s now mysteriously wealthy and the picture of a perfect Southern gentleman – a gentleman who is quietly seeking vengeance on the man who forced him out of the city and stole the woman he loved.
