Mirella often wonders what her life would've been like had she been born a princess, rather than the property of one.
When a dark warlord from the north conquers
her princess' kingdom, however, he has plans for the dainty young
future-queen. It makes the question all the more poignant, because now,
more is at stake than just her rough treatment, but love and lust as
well.
As an indentured servant and handmaiden to
the princess for much of her life, the middle-aged Mirella sees the
conquest of the land as an opportunity to elevate herself. Though as she
earns the trust of their conquerors, she finds her own nature
challenged as well. A life of callous disregard has made her hard, but
as she battles the princess' will for the first time and finds new
allies and friends, does she have what it takes to win the love and
favour of the brutal warlord? Will love and friendship be her downfall?
Or will her station in life yet again be her undoing?
Caution: The Warlord's Concubine is a dark
fantasy novel that contains explicit scenes, and a twisted romance
between a handmaiden and a God.
Review
****This book was part of a blog tour I received a copy for my honest review****
The Warlord’s Concubine started out a little rough for me. The first few chapters didn’t grab me and when the sex started I thought this was all there was in store for the remaining pages. I was very pleased when I got further in and realized this isn’t just a story filled with sex and service, there is a fun and interesting plot and a surprising romance and HEA. Mirella isn’t a heroine that’s easy to love, although you find yourself siding with her often, she is jaded having lived her life as a servant to people who were held above her simply because of breeding. When the walls fall and she and her princess are taken to the God-King’s lair to become his concubines, she sees this as the opportunity she’s been waiting for. Unlike the others, she views him as the God he is, to be worshiped, not feared as his other concubines do. Her first time kneeling at his feet she shows him desire and begins the relationship that grows throughout the story, resulting in new powers and a new future for her. The princess held nothing for me, and in fact got on my nerves when she was in the story. Our God- King Kulav is a very dominate and alpha personality that shows through the pages. I enjoyed their interactions, the sex was hot, and the action in the story was entertaining. This book does have it’s dark themes and may not be for everyone.
