Searching for Tomorrow

Blurb:

What happens when you find the one person who completes you, and then life conspires against you? How do you set your grief and anguish aside? How do you pick up the shattered pieces, put those pieces back together again, and try to move on?

Katie and Tripp met on the playground the first day of third grade when Tripp tried to rescue Katie from Zack, her twin brother. A lifelong friendship that later blossomed into love began that day.

Broken beyond her own ability to repair, Katie boxes her grief up and attempts to raise her three girls the best she can on her own. As time slowly passes, Katie relives her times with Tripp while struggling most days to even get out of bed. She is reminded of him at every turn.

Zack is Katie's twin brother and was Tripp's best friend. Having lost his own love, he dedicates himself to helping Katie put her life back together. Throw in a mother-in-law who torments at every turn and poor Katie can't even find a chance to breathe, much less a desire to somehow search for tomorrow.

Author Interview:

Tell us 5 surprising things about yourself.
  • 1.     I am a PK. If you know what that means, then you know what that means.
    2.     I have always wanted to be a red head with long, beautiful corkscrew curls.
    3.     No matter what I’m doing, I would rather be outside, day or night, hot or cold, rain or shine.
    4.     I was awarded two separate scholarships when I graduated high school. One was a teaching fellowship and the other was for writing.
    5.     I love to cook, almost as much as I like to eat. I spent a couple of years as a private cook for a local family and loved every minute of it

    What is your writing environment?

At the moment, I have a makeshift office in my pantry! If need be, I can shut the door and cut off part of the noise. I hope to have a more permanent space soon.

One of your favorite quotes.

To whom much is given, much is required.

Random things about my novel.

Just a bit of nonsense. I am Kathryn Anne, and my two sisters are Rebekah Elizabeth and Sarah Margaret. My husband is Channing, and my son is Zachary. One of my daughters is Elizabeth, and I still have to work my daughter Brittany into the book. Highlands is my most favorite place in the world to go when my soul need refreshing. Last, but not least, I actually had a great-grandma Tiddy!

Flirting Questions

What does love feel like?

Warm, fuzzy, secure, safe, sheltered

How did you meet your significant other?

In the lobby of the bank that I worked in. I was on all fours under a Christmas tree tightening the screws in the base. What can I say? Baby got back!

If you could take a romantic trip, where would it be?

Any trip I take with Hubs is romantic. One of his favorite things to do is to whisk me away to wine and dine me.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Absolutely! Ask me how I feel about my grandson Grayson!

Bio:

About this author If you are reading this, I think you should know that "About me" sounds so very pretentious to me. I guess that is what I am supposed to write about, so here it goes!

Katie Mac is a simple country girl who likes to spend time with her hubba, hunka hubby, her three kids and her friends. She loves to cook and really loves to eat! During the spring and summer, you will more than likely find her outside puttering around in her garden. When the veggies start coming in, she will probably be sweating over a hot canner in the kitchen, canning all the goodies she is blessed with. Katie likes to hike and go camping, and as a Girl Scout leader, she gets to do this pretty often! On cold winter nights, you will probably find her wrapped in a warm blanket, lost in a good book, while sitting in her rocking chair on the front porch!
Katie was born and raised in North Carolina, and while she loves to travel, she can't imagine ever leaving the mountains that she has come to call home. Not a day goes by that Katie doesn't thank God for abundantly blessing her. He has been so good to her, and she is very grateful. She holds Jeremiah 29:11 very close to her heart and believes it with every fiber of her being. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Katie loves flip flops, chocolate, sweet tea and dirt between her toes. As far back as she can remember, she's had a book in her hand. Reading has carried her to places she will never go. It has introduced her to people that she will never meet. When life is great and when it is rough, she's always been able to find a book to carry her through. She finally decided to write down some of the stories in her head (yes, be scared) and heart after dawdling around and wasting years dreaming. She hopes you enjoy reading those stories as much as she loves writing them!

This Time Around

This Time Around
 3 of 5 stars false1/2
Nora Montgomery left home and heartbreak behind in South Carolina when she moved to New York City after her high school graduation. Now, four years later, she returns home and is forced to confront the past she left behind and the reckless boy who broke her heart. It’s not long before the pieces of her past begin to blur with the present and she realizes that the feelings she had for her first love never really went away. As old dreams resurface and new truths come to light, she begins to question the future she's always planned on.
Jake Harris has spent four years regretting the night he let her get away. When she finally reappears in his life, he is determined to win her back and prove how much he’s changed. She might never forgive him for that night, but if he tells her the truth about what really happened it will shatter the world she thought she knew. If he doesn’t, he might not get a second chance. He’s already lost her once and he won’t lose her again.
They come from two different worlds that are threatening to tear them apart…can they make it this time around?

Review

****This book was part of a blog tour I was given an ARC and based my review on content only****
Four years ago Jake broke Nora’s heart with no explanation; he never showed up for their last date and never called. Nora went off to college in New York and is now back in her home town for her best friends wedding. When they see each other again all their feelings come rushing back, the two of them start dating again. However, the reasons that Jake never showed up are still between them and telling Nora could devastate her. Can Nora and Jake get over their past, can they make a future or will they be torn apart again? This book was good it's one of those second chance summer romance books, it's very sweet with some steamy love scenes thrown in that spice things up a bit. Jake was a reformed "bad boy" in his youth he was a player and did stupid things, but when he met Nora that all changed. When Nora left for college he decided he wanted to be the type of man she deserved and took steps to do that. Nora had a tendency to bug me at times; she was strong with everyone but her parents. She was indecisive at times and that got on my nerves, which is why I gave this book a 3 1/2 instead of a 4 star rating. This Time Around is a good beach read; it’s not very long, the story is very cute and you get a HEA.

Catherine's Cross

Catherine's Cross
 3 of 5 stars false1/2
When Jenks Ellington experiences a sudden, alarming sense of panic about her identical twin sister Gigi, she has to wait until nearly midnight before learning the reason for her unease: Gigi has drowned while diving for artifacts in a Low Country river near Beaufort, South Carolina. Although Beaufort County detective Seth Mason is suspicious of Gigi’s diving partner, there is no evidence of foul play. But, when Gigi’s Port Royal home is broken into and ransacked, Jenks discovers two clues—one of which leads her to the home of a local Gullah medium.
In a painstaking search for answers, Jenks delves more deeply into her twin’s life. Along the way, her bond with Detective Mason reaches unexpected depths. And what secrets could medium Meta Jane be holding? Was Gigi’s death really an accident?

Review

****This book was part of a blog tour I was given a copy for my honest review****
Jenks and her twin sister Gigi have always been to sense when each one of them is in trouble, one night Jenks feels this and knows something is really wrong. Hours later her mother and police officers show up to tell her that Gigi is dead, devastated Jenks goes to where her sister lived to find out what happened. With the help of Detective Seth Mason Jenks sifts through her sisters’ life and forms a relationship with Seth. Can Jenks find out what happened to her sister or will she end up another casualty? This book was slow and mellow like a quiet walk through the park. There was drama and suspense, but the way it is written it's not the oh my god yell at the characters kind, the only way to describe it would be calm and soothing. Jenks has just lost her sister and still she tries to help everyone around. Seth knows how Jenks feels since he was a twin and had lost his brother, the relationship between the two of them had a natural feel to it. My favorite part of this book was the history, the author added so much to the book by including journals and other stories from the area. If you like action packed books or ones filled with steamy sex scenes this is not the book to read. If you are looking for a book with a good story but more laid back this is a good one. I was in the mood for this type of book so I really enjoyed reading Catherine's Cross.

Beneath the Surface 18+

The following review is for 18+ readers.
Beneath the Surface‏ (Reluctance, #1)
3 of 5 stars false1/2
Kyran Reese is a man in control. Driven when it comes to work, focused when it comes to play. From his office to the chalk circle of the bare-knuckle boxing ring, his only thought is to win. That thirst heightens when Dale Porter enters his life. His brother’s assistant should be off limits, but her witty comments and sarcastic comebacks have him desperate to get her between the sheets.
When Dale agrees to Kyran’s relationship stipulation of no labels she’s sucked into a whirlwind of lust, money, and underground boxing. Dale fights her growing affection, trying to hide it when the world around them spirals out of control. All too soon she realizes she can’t hide her true feelings any longer.
Has Kyran finally met his match? Could playing to win mean playing for keeps?

Review

*****I was given a copy of this through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review****
Kyran Reese is a man in charge by nature. A polished serious business man who has a dark side, he meets fun loving and not always graceful Dale Porter as she stumbles into his office looking to fill the position of assistant for his brother. This is their journey…
I read some reviews before I started this book that worried me a little, but I really enjoyed it. Kyran was sexy and controlling, and a great character to get to know. I loved his underground fighting as an outlet for his issues, it really added another layer to the story that could have left it lacking without it. Kyran made this book for me. My main problem and one the things that kept it from being a 4 star for me was Dale. I couldn’t connect with her, didn’t hate her but couldn’t connect,, her head always seemed up in the clouds, and she came across as a little flighty. No matter how many adjectives described her as something else, I just couldn’t picture her as the strong woman she was supposed to be. Other than that the reader is taken through many ups and downs in their lives and you really start to develop feelings for them all. And that ending? Perfect!

Trust Me

Lawyer Alaina Simmons never imagined that she would be defending her deceased father against accusations of terrorism when she agreed to protect his legacy, a group of documents he’d placed in an archival repository. FBI Lawyer Donovan Prentice insists that her father and the organization he worked for were terrorists and that crucial evidence is in the documents Alaina has sworn to protect. Now she is forced to combat the FBI and her compelling attraction to Donovan Prentice while unaware that she is also Donovan’s suspect. Special Agent Donovan Prentice is working undercover posing as a lawyer in an attempt to gain access to the evidence he needs to convict a group of terrorists as well as determine if Alaina Simmons is working with them. Things become complicated as Donovan becomes more intent on getting his suspect in bed than putting her in jail. When the bullets start to fly and the lies begin to unravel Alaina and Donovan begin to explore their intensely sexual relationship, but the couple will have to learn to trust each other both in and out of bed before the terrorists’ game of intrigue can end. Warning: This book contains steamy sex scenes and amusing banter.

Excerpt

Alaina rushed out the door of her three-bedroom bungalow. She had intended to be at the office earlier, but for some inexplicable reason she was running late. She also had a splitting headache and not a single aspirin in her house. She was going to have to make a quick trip to the drugstore, which was going to make her even later. There was no way she was going to get through a meeting with opposing counsel with this headache.
Climbing into her new black Ford Focus, she made a conscious effort to relax by taking a calming breath and absorbing the California sunshine. She was going to be late so she might as well accept it and stop worrying. Besides, Californians were much less worried about being on time. Obviously she had yet to shed her east coast mentality. It would take her about a half an hour to get to work since she lived in Chula Vista, a surrounding residential community of San Diego. She chose a drugstore close to her home, quickly parked and rushed inside. The store, a chain she frequently patronized, was quiet at this early hour of the morning and essentially empty of customers. Alaina hastily made her away across the white tile floors in search of pain relievers and finally spotted them in aisle four. So intent on her quest, she didn't notice the tall dark haired man in her path until a very hard masculine chest halted her.
Alaina slowly lifted her head to find herself staring into deep blue eyes with thick black lashes. Apparently the gorgeous eyes belonged to an equally gorgeous face. Frankly the man was striking, and in that brief moment she wondered why her friends never tried to set her up with a hottie like the one before. His hair was black and his sculpted features, reminded her of those guys in the cologne ads. His tall and perfectly shaped frame filled out his well-tailored navy suit and from him emanated an unmistakable aura of strength and confidence. As their eyes met there was an instant mutual awareness as the physical attraction vibrated between them. Never had she felt anything remotely like this and certainly not with a complete stranger. She realized she was staring and was completely mortified by the awareness that he had caught her doing it. Alaina decided it was probably the time to apologize.
She opened her mouth and stammered, “I'm sorry, I'm late for an appointment and I was rushing. I didn't even see you.”
Gleaming white teeth appeared as he said, “It was my pleasure.” The blatant sexual undertone sent goose bumps down her arms. His spicy cologne wafted over her as she stared up into his penetrating eyes. His eyes that seemed to know her most intimate secrets, what an absurd thought, Alaina chided herself. This is ridiculous; he’s just some strange guy she would probably never see again and she was completely turned on. She felt like a teenager being overwhelmed by his appearance. It was not as if she had never seen an attractive man before, but this one was somehow different. She couldn't put her finger on it. Okay so maybe it was because just looking at him was making her wet. Well, she thought, two can play at the flirting game. She returned his smile with a sexy one of her own, a smile that had a history of turning many heads. Her smile appeared to throw him a little off balance and she took advantage of his apparent discomposure, responding in her most sensual tone “Well, I'll make sure I look where I'm going from now on. Again, I really am sorry.” Her statement had been innocuous but her tone and smile had let him know how attractive she found him.
“Don’t worry about it. Like I said before it was my pleasure, and feel free to run into me any time you want.” He smiled revealing an engaging dimple.
Alaina thought that sounded like a great idea when she came to her senses and realized that she was flirting with a perfect stranger in a drugstore before nine in the freaking morning, who could, for all she knew, be an axe murderer. On top of that she had been so caught up in their encounter that she completely forgot she was late for work and she still hadn't picked up any aspirin. Suddenly she realized that she no longer had a headache. A little sexual turn-on and the headache had disappeared. Maybe it had been caused by lack of sex? If that was the case she definitely needed to get laid.
She looked up at him with regret and almost sighed. She really didn’t want to walk away from this one, but really you can’t pick up a stranger in a drugstore. “As much as I’d like to take you up on that offer I gotta run. Sorry again.”
“Stop apologizing,” he said. “Are you sure you won’t change your mind? We could go for coffee?” He flashed another sexy grin.
She couldn’t help but return his smile. “I’m really tempted, but I don’t know you and I‘ve got to get to work,” Alaina said as she quickly grabbed a bottle of aspirin from the shelf.
He looked down at the bottle. “Why don’t you call the office and tell them you’re not feeling well?” His voice was coaxing, seductive.
If she didn’t have such an important meeting this morning she would have actually gone with him. She shook her head regretfully. “I have an appointment I just can’t miss. Maybe some other time?” She turned and dashed to the cash register not giving him time to respond. After making her purchase she quickly tossed the bottle in her purse while she rushed out of the store leaving her unexpected flirtation behind. As she got into her car she wondered why she felt like she’d just made a big mistake. Maybe she should have given him her number?
Donovan Prentice watched her walk away wondering what had led him to be so careless. He had never let anyone he was following be aware of his presence, but somehow he hadn't been able to resist the opportunity to meet her before she knew who he was. Unfortunately, he was extremely attracted to her. When he first observed her running out of her house, he had noticed how much more beautiful she was in person than in the surveillance pictures he’d seen of her. The photographs had not done her justice: they had failed to capture that sway in her walk, the confidence she exuded, and the fresh citrus scent of her perfume. Not to mention that fine ass and firm chest, a chest that he had the pleasure to feel bump up against him. Her features were soft and delicate: a small pert nose, large green eyes and a somewhat determined chin surrounded by a thick mass of dark brown hair. It was enchanting. A small woman, probably not much more than 5'2”, but her shape was perfect. Had they met in different circumstances he wouldn't have let her go, he would have tried to find out more about her and definitely had her in his bed by nightfall.
The problem was he already knew everything about her. He knew where she was born, who her parents were, how many siblings she had, where she had grown up, where she had gone to school, what she had majored in, where she worked and lived. He even knew what credit cards she had and what she purchased with them. He was always thorough in his research and he probably knew more about her than her own mother. The only thing he didn't know about Alaina Simmons was whether or not she was guilty. That was something he was going to find out, after all it was his specialty.
