A Shade of Vampire

A Shade of Vampire (A Shade of Vampire, #1)
On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.
A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.
She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.
Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.
Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.
Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novak's?

Review

****The author provided me with a copy of this book for my honest review****
A lonely walk on the beach on the night of her 17th birthday turns into a nightmare when Sofia is kidnapped by a vampire. Taken back to the Shade, a forest on an island that has been be spelled to be in darkness always, she is there for a special purpose. To be a gift to the Prince Derek Novak when he awakens from his 400 year slumber.
Derek is immediately drawn to her , unfortunately she also has caught the obsessive attention of Derek's brother Lucas.
Already in a dangerous position of having to trying and please Derek to keep her life, now she has a psycho vampire who wants her for himself. How will she keep her life and her growing feelings for Derek under wraps?
This was a very quick book, only 81 pages, however when I read the blurb I felt it held a lot of promise. Definitely some cool ideas and I am always after something different in the paranormal romance genre. To me it definitely would have been better if it had been given more length and a bit more info into backgrounds etc. Things were alluded to that we didn't get the full picture of and it was the interesting stuff. The war with the hunters, what Derek's Dad is up too, the prophecy or the chains that have been set in motion because of Sofia and Derek.
Also for me, I kept on wishing for more passion between the couple. It was a lot of internal thoughts from the different POV, instead of actual conversations or actions. I craved these actions and felt the lack of them.
In saying all that, that ending has left me with a hankering for what happens next. What is going to happen with Lucas? I need to know!! It was a solid 3 star read for me and I will be getting the following book.
